Recent Improvement

I would like to open the discussion about Colombia's change since last year when the president Uribe took power, I think there are a lot of problems to solve but I think finally the country is getting better, ex. unemployment rates are finally going down (not a lot but at least they are now by the 13), economy is growing much faster, things such as construction are helping a lot , the most important thing is the change in the mind of Colombians who now have a more possitive view of the country, he ahs given a lot of confidence, and also as an example, this weekend is the busiest in the history of the country regarding the amount of people that is travelling, 21 million.
I am pretty happy about that, I know our problems are not going to be solved in a short time, but at least Mr Uribe has a strong sense of leadership that the country was lacking, and he has defenetely given the country a very good air, and change.

I hope you share your views and post in english some of the figures of the improvement the country is facing.

Bye good luck

Roughing up the paramilitaries I definately agree with the tougher stance that Uribe is taking with the FARC/Paramilitaries. Personally I thought it was a big sign of weakness by the Pastrana administration to give the FARC a safe haven and I applaud Uribe for taking it away from them. And this tougher stance seems to be making some positive headway - several AUC units have recently disbanded, the capture of Trinidad, and the overall growing military competance of the Colombian government.

You are right about things improving. My wife says that all sorts of things that used to be difficult or dangerous can now be accomplished especially in the area of travel. Buses used to get stopped between the cities and now it's a lot safer. Recently she let her kids travel alone on the overnight bus from Cali to Medellin and that is something she never would have done before.

Poor but snappy
