Reality Check - 04/26/2009

I'm hoping that the weekend was kind of slow because it's a pain in the neck to read the stories, paste the links etc. I was mentioning the stories from El Meridiano to my wife who told me that we were in the paper when we got married. A friend of my mother-in-law's slipped in an item without her or my wife knowing about it. I just hope they spelled my name right.

From El Meridiano de Cordoba (Monteria):

http://www.elmeridianodecordoba.com.co/index.php?option=com_content&vi...

Two members of the criminal gang of Mario were killed in a battle with an army unit. Weapons and ammunition were also seized.

http://www.elmeridianodecordoba.com.co/index.php?option=com_content&vi...

Another item about the swindlers who were using false documentation to steal from merchants in Lorica, Monteria and Cima. The funniest part of the story (at least to me) was the following: "Sin embargo, Jairo Antonio Martínez Espitia y Ledis Arbeláez dieron papaya regresando ayer a Ciénaga de Oro queriendo realizar otros negocios." I guess even thieves give papaya from time to time.

http://www.elmeridianodecordoba.com.co/index.php?option=com_content&vi...

In Cienaga de Oro, a couple of people on a moto pulled up to the terminal of the Cooperativa de Transportadores and robbed the collector of the day's collection. The collector at first refused to hand over the money but thought otherwise after being beaten.

In Monteria a man of 80 and a woman of 42 were both arrested for using false identification to try to withdraw money from a bank.

From El Meridiano de Sucre (Sincelejo):

http://www.elmeridianodesucre.com.co/caliente/domingocaliente/judicial...

After the mayor of Covenas disappeared, a hunt was started in the belief that she had been kidnapped. She came to the newspaper office to state that she had come to Sincelejo with companions and was unable to be reached when the battery in her cell phone died.

Police stated that after a series of robberies in which the victims were tied up that these will be treated as kidnappings if the victims are held "por un minuto contra su voluntad". That will show them!

The body of Francisco Villaba was returned to his native city, Sincelejo, for burial. He had been assassinated by persons unknown after being let out of prison in Medellin due to medical problems. The AUC leader had tried to tie President Uribe to the massacre at El Aro.

I must say I enjoy in a perverse way our daily tale of woe from the costa.I know Sincelejo quite well and always found it a pleasant place with nice people, obviously I went on the wrong days.
My only really bad experience was when some twat in a mask tried to carjack me ,pointing a handgun shakily at my head,I told him to fuck off and drove off over his foot. All in all a rather amateurish attempt .

Who knows? Maybe it was in El Meridiano.

These are stories taken each day straight from the two newspapers in question. What could be more Colombian? BTW, Coastal Gringo, how many Colombians live in your house?

"How many Colombians live in your house Migue? " CG.....

Coastal Gringo, is the above a reference to this "BTW, Coastal Gringo, how many Colombians live in your house?"..???..that was a question for you by UTC, not me....note the quotation marks in my post? i was simply pointing out that the OP seems to believe that the more Colombians who live in his house the more credible his posts are, which is stupid and ridiculous, to say the least. So the more Colombians who live in his house, with him being the only gringuito, the more valid his claims are. hmmmm....right.

tomtom33...i dont think anyone is doubting the links are actual events....but what is not accepted are his conclusions that his CHICKEN LITTLE THE SKY IS FALLING!!! THE SKY IS FALLING !!! posts are some kind of reality check. He just doesnt want people enjoying Colombia while he is stuck with the BradyBunch in Nowheresville, Texas........

Actually, Coastal Gringo, I agree with the comments in your last post. If you actually read the items posted in the "reality check" you'll see some of them are ridiculous. I mean the Covenas mayor's phone is discharged and they can't reach her on a shopping trip to Sincelejo so they assume she's been kidnapped. Who could make this stuff up?

They are two different things, but are not mutually exclusive.
