I AGREE 199 PERCENT THAT SUPRISING THEM WITH YOUR KNOWLEDGE IS GOOD BECAUSE KNOWLEDGE IS GOOD.

I don't know Bogotá but if you make friends in Medellín I can tell you the estrata. Someone here will soon chime in with info for you.

I am pretty sure it is "estrato". (Not that it is super important)

The best way to surprise an English speaking Colombiana you met on the internet? Send her a Western Union payment so she can buy medicine for her family's donkey that happens to be sick. :op

PS: Colombia is not Spain, just as Australia is not England.

que nota!

The best way to surprise her with your knowledge is to secretly learn spanish, and just when she says something compromising... well you get my drift.

Seriously though learn spanish and that will open up a field of knowledge about Colombia you would never get otherwise.

patio bonito en el poblado is in a good neighborhood, 4 or 5 if not a 6, but it sounds like you must be referring to bogota.

generally speaking if your a gringo its wise to live in 4-6 just because of general crime risks. although i have had several friends live in 3's and not have any problems. Same goes for living in the USA. i mean i had my house broken into 2 times in 1 year in Coconut Grove in the Miami area.

If your with someone from the area as opposed to walking around in neighborhoods lost you will be much better off. Off course.

cheers!

Hostal Tamarindo says on Sep 3, 2008, 09:55:

Patio Boito in Medellín has both estrato 5 and 6. I live in La Loma del Escobaro and a couple of years back the "Municipio de Envigado" came by to check fixtures and ammenities to confirm if my community was estrato 5 or 6. In other words, a neighborhood or a closed community can be checked at random or may request to be checked if they feel they deserve to have a lower rating. No one would ask to be checked if they felt their rating was below what they deserved because obviously no one wants to pay more.

By the way, when I first moved here I used to confuse extracto and estrato. The first meaning bank statement or extract.
