If it's all about appearances/bragging rights, rather than spend $51,000 USD for a BMW with a toy motor, I think I'd buy a Mazda 6 or something similar that's assembled in Colombia and spend the $10K or $20K savings on trips to Miami.

Problem with buying a car when the depreciation bottoms out is usaully that's when the car will start having problems. The car may be cheap but the maintanance might not be depending on the car. Anyway, I think it totally depends on the kind of car and whether it will be popular in 4 or 5 years.

What about motos here in colombia? Is it better to buy used or new? There are a lot of 2 stokes and I know they have to be rebuilt from time to time. In general are colombians good at keeping up with the maintanance or do they do things half assed to save money?
