Racial Mixing Causes Instability in South America?

this is from white-history.com

The vast majority of the inhabitants of the continent of South America had always been non-White: the first inhabitants were exclusively Amerind; then White Spaniards and Portuguese arrived, bringing with them Black slaves, and then finally a mixed race group had emerged from the mixing of large numbers of these four groupings.

South American racial history becomes murky from then on: while the majority of the population are of mixed racial origin, there are still a significant number of Whites remaining - and it is generally in those areas where they predominate, that the regions in question are the more advanced on the continent.

So it is that First and Third World conditions exist cheek by jowl in South America, the direct result of the intermingling process which has taken place. The one overriding theme of South American history since the war of liberation from the Spanish has been instability: political, social and economic. Politically, the states have swayed between totalitarian dictatorships and partial democracies; socially the continent has become the source of some of the greatest disparities in the world: with a small, usually White, elite, holding the majority of the continent's wealth, with the vast majority of the now mostly mixed race population surviving on a subsistence economy at best.

South America has also, along with Southeast Asia and certain parts of the Near East, become the heartland of the world drug production and distribution empire, echoing the Mafia of southern Italy in their criminality and murderous zeal which extends as far as politics in many South American countries.

The parallels in the racial makeup of the large mixed race populations of Sicily and large parts of South America, and the appearance of violent international criminal gangs, is too obvious to ignore.

Politically, in spite of Bolivar's dream, unity was not to be achieved between the various states in South America, as had happened in North America. The reason for this was that, unlike North America, the population of South America was not as racially homogenous as North America, and so racial divisions, quite apart from the already aggravated economic and social disparities, came into play. The jealousies and rivalries in South America to this day sometimes take on deadly serious but comical proportions, with two South American states being famous for going to war with one another in the 1960s over the outcome of a football match.

Racially homogenous? I didn't think North America to be more racially homogenous than South America. I don't consider North America racially homogenous at all quite the opposite. I would consider Asian countries to be racially homogenous as well as some European nations, eg: Ireland, but not North America.

Where did you find this stuff?

Homogenous Not even Europe is racially homogenous, so basically this is saying that it is the combination of native American indians and the different European races is the problem, so if the conquistadors and settlers in Latinamerica would have killed all the indians around we would have been more organized politically and economically? Or is it that our European ancestors the Spanish who were invaded by the Arabs for 600 years purified their blood to develop into one of the richest nations in the world? What an ignorant commentary.

North America - racially homogenous - you're having a laugh!! The U.S. is probably one of the most racially segregated countries i've ever been to.
Colombia definately has a lot of racial prejudice and you will see that all the positions of financial, social and political power aswell as the TV presenters, models and any image of glamour or intellect will be filled by the fairer skin. The poorest areas of Colombia i.e.Choco, Narino, Putumayo are departments with black or indeginous majorities - this is a prejudice instilled in much of Colombian society and seems very much accepted. The sons and daughters of the elite would never be seen to marry someone from a lower strata much less of another colour (though shagging the maid is OK!!). This can also be seen further down the ladder and many lower strata people i know look down on 'los negros' (particularly in terms of partners) even if they themselves are of mixed latin desent. It is something that seems engrained in society in Colombia and i see very little going on to change it (i'd be interested to know of any 'equal opportunies' voices in Colombia).
But to say thay racial mixing causes instability, bollocks! the majority of Colombia is mixed race, and the majority of them are economically between the 'poor black and indigenous' and the 'rich white European' there are many more reasons for the instability in Colombia, racial mixing is not one of them.

this post is just a carefully worded justification for white hegemony in the world; please either ignore this kind of racist bs or be pepared for more ultra-nationalistic arguments that tend to get more and more unpalatable all the time.

Oh please.... I can´t believe nobody (except Desideria) seems to notice that this posting is absolutely racist and also shows the utter ignorance of the people who support such ideologies.
To attribute the social, economic and historical problems of south america to the "race mix" is typical of racist ideology but as is usual this analysis is absolutely "childish" and shows the lack of education of the people who write it.
The real resons are not "race mixtures" but social injustices, and yes, the racism of the european colonizers and then their offspring, the european elites who ruled over the majority of conquered populations and kept them in ignorance, fear and exploitation for hundreds of years instead of including them in the developing of their countries. If you study what really happened in these countries you´ll see that the elites didn´t want to share anything with the aboriginal populations. And by sharing I mean not "giving away" money but education, work opportunities, etc.
Now, to think that white Europe has always been wealthy is also wrong, just take a good look at a history book and you´ll see that the vast majority of the european population lived in similar conditions as the latin american population until the big social and economic reforms of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Just Amusing!!!!!!! Racism and prejudice are nothing more than the justifications used by the upper classes (groups) to oppress the lower classes. They are tools used to cause division among the poor of the world so that they may be manipulated by the establishment. I advise you to read Guns, Germs and Steel to have a better understanding of why Europe came to dominate the world in the 19th century. I can assure you it has nothing to do with "racial superiority."

Racism is very active in Colombia, but the majority of the people are not as self-aware of their ethnicity as people here in America are. The elite is and wants to remain white, but the mestizo(mixed) considers himself "white" and scorns both the "negros" and "indios" as inferior. In reality the mestizos (at least most) have only few traces of "whiteness" and are more black and/or indian than anything else. But this illusion has allowed the elite to maintain the structure of society. Colombia has many problems as it is, imagine what would happen if the people realized that they are considered inferior by the elite of Colombia and whites around the world?

So you're saying they're gonna really be pissed when they realize that they're mestizo? I thought that was what the whole Dia de la Raza was about? Or is it just PR and nobody believes it. BTW, do we have to read the book? Can't we just watch the movie?
