I have a quick quiestion about visa pickup. I have taken off of work in order to escort my girlfriend to the embassy for her interview. The interview is on May 19th which is a Friday. I hate to stay the weekend to pick it up on Monday, but if so I understand. Afterwards, I found out today that the following Monday is some type of holiday. I assume that the embassy will be closed to the public. Does anyone know if they will make everyone wait until Tuesday if your appointment is on a Friday and the following Monday is a Holiday in order to pick up the visa? Or will someone be there to provide the visa on the Monday which is a holiday?

DanielPaisa says on May 4, 2006, 12:42: is your GF a colombian? the US embassy does not permit you to go pick up your visa. Once a visa is aproved, you go to a certified mail company located inside the embassy, and they send it to your house. The ask when and at what time to deliver it. Mrblablazo says on May 4, 2006, 16:28: If Monday is a holiday . . . Plan on picking it up on Tuesday after 4pm. My wife had her CR1 interview this past April 12, the Wednesday before Easter. Thursday and Friday were holidays, and people were told to come back on Monday. However, we got extremely lucky, maybe the guy at the window just liked us, and told us he'd make an exception and have ours ready that day. We left for lunch and came back at 4 for the visa. A pleasant surprise since it meant we didn't have to go back on Monday, but if you're buying airfare around this, I'd plan on Tuesday (unless you've got enough money to just pay the airline penalty for a missed flight).

Jlove says on May 5, 2006, 06:13: Thanks mrblablazo. I wanted to speak to them to see if there is any was that they could possibly provide the visa to us on Friday or Monday. Friday would be best. Did you ask him to help you or did he volunteer the help. After our appointment, I wanted to explain the situation to them in hopes that I can also become an exception. If not I will do what I have to do. Daniel I believe that the visa are always given out now. I do not believe that they are mailed anymore.
