Questions on Bogota

Anyone stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Bogota before? If so, what is it like?
Also, anyone heard of the town named "Suba" about 30 minutes north of Bogota? What is it like?
Thanks

hotels and such Hi Buster,
Sheraton is a nice hotel, however if you are trying to get more than one room it's better if you go with La Fontana, just accross the street from Unicentro. If you need help in getting fully furnished apartments i can help you with that.
Suba is actually not a town but a neighborhood, north west of the city. There are many sections to this area, some very nice, some not at all. Where exactly are you talking about in Suba?
Saludos a todos. Please remember us for all your needs in Colombia or before arriving there. Gracias

Buster 4 points is nice, as you would expect. It's close to the airport and a nice mall, the Salitre Plaza. The part of town is safe, if not a little boring.

I've been thru Suba, but it was a long time ago. I'll let someone else comment.

colombiabusiness... I'm not sure of the part of Suba..I sponsor a young boy there through my church, and that is the neighborhood that he lives in.

Are the malls in Bogota more expensive than the shops in the US? I understand its in Colombian currency and all, but just wondering if they are priced about the same.

What else is near the Sheraton? Anything fun to do with a nine year old boy and his family?

4 points is nice but there's NOTHING there. It's an airport hotel, basically, with a cluster of nice restaurants at its base.

If you actually want to see something of Bogota, choose another place to stay.

Suba is integrated to the rest of the city, and it's pretty much divided in two: Niza (my old neighborhood) is mostly upper-middle class, somewhat charming and relatively safe. The rest (including the actual town of Suba) is a less privileged sprawl. Not sure about its safety for foreigners, but as a local I never had a problem there either. The boy you sponsor probably lives there.

The things you can get in a mall are almost always cheaper in Bogota than in the US. Services are even cheaper.

My girl lives in Suba in a new development in the 150s off of Av Cali. Her area is brand-new and nice. Her kid goes to school somewhere near Centro Suba. It's one of the best schools in the whole city.

She doesn't like Suba though and wants to move. She says that although it's beautiful it's just too damn far from everything and she's wasting too much time getting from A to B. She'd rather live still in the NW but somewhere on the other side of her kid's school, closer to the portal de la 80.

Suba has a upper class area and a really low class area, since you´re sponsoring a kid he´s probably in the low class area. As long as you go there with the church´s representatives you´ll be ok.
Sheraton is a good option for you because it´s somewhat near Suba. It´s a good hotel, close to the american embassy.
Everything is in colombian pesos, prices at most malls are almost the same as in the US and in some cases higher. Take a small calculator and do the conversion. You can pay in those malls with credit or debit cards and it´s better for you to do so.
