I'm going to have a church wedding and it is my understanding that I will take the church document (wedding certificate) to a notory to have it recorded or notorized.
I'm not sure what the process is here. I'm guessing that the notory will provide some thing official to prove I'm married for INS purposes or can I just use the church document.
Anyway I was wondering just what forms need to be filed after the wedding to get a spousal visa and how does the proof of relationship differ from the fiancee visa process.

utopiacowboy says on Apr 12, 2006, 21:05: When the church wedding is registered with the notaria you will have what is called a registro civil of your marriage. A copy of that document together with a translation into English is what you will submit to the USCIS with your petitions. The proof of relationship differs from the fiancee visa process in that you do not need any proof of relationship for a spousal visa. I filed an I-130 (approved), an I-129F (for her K-3 also approved) and an I-485 (adjust her status also approved). All anyone with the US government ever saw in the way of proof was our marriage certificate (registro civil above). Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Gator says on Apr 13, 2006, 08:38: UC Is Right (as usual)... just remember you must use a notary where the wedding took place-you can't get married in say Jumandi and then try and register the marriage with a notary in Cartagena (Gee! I wonder how Gator found that out?) "Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
