Question about Rental Car IN U.S.

Hey guys, have not been back to U.S. for 2 years. My u.s. drivers license is expired. Can I use my colombia drivers license and my passport to rent a car in the U.S.?
I was told that since my cedula expired every two years, I could not use it, I was told I need a permanent Cedula.

Might be different in each state but in NY i`m pretty sure a Colombian drivers license is not valid

You can rent a car in the States with a foreign license........Colombian is not a problem................some rental companies also require an international driving permit............which you get here before you leave.

You might have a different issue. If stopped by police and they enter your name into their computer........(which they will do, as your Colombian lic will not swipe).......it could bring up that you have an expired US lic. Then you will have a problem.

.........Its useless to argue with ignorance

Hertz.....

" An acceptable valid driver's license, issued from your country of residence, MUST be presented at time of rental. The driver's license must be valid for the entire rental period. If the driver's license is in a language other than English, and the rental is in the United States, an International Driver's Permit is recommended. In all cases, a valid driver's license issued in your home country must be provided, whether or not you possess an International Driver's Permit. You will not be allowed to rent a Hertz vehicle with only an International Driver's Permit "

Just checked and in NY a foreign license is valid. Only if you become a resident will it become invalid after thirty days and then you have to apply for a NY license.
