question about colombians married and getting divorced abroad

hi there, sorry to bother you, i have a question for you guys, I understand that when two colombians get married and live together abroad they need to register their marriage at the colombian consulate, what happens if these two individuals get divorced at the same country where they got married? they have never lived in colombia, and got divorced less than a year later, will they need to get divorced in colombia too? what will they need to do, and what will happen if one of them decides to get married to a U.S citizen in the U.S? will they be committing bigamy? if so, how will they need to get divorced in colombia, how long will it take? your help in this matter will b grately appreciated :)

thanks

Not sure exact question. They married and divorced abroad (same country - correct?) If they are legit with the first divorce, can't they just send the same divorce info to the consul? Not sure why a second divorce would be needed in Colombia. They were not married in Colombia, only registerd it correct?

This could pose as a problem if the two are not communicating and records are pulled from Colombia. Is the US marriage registered in Colombia too?
If the US marriage was registered - it would set up a red flag...having 2 marriages - may cause the proper channels to investigate on their own jajaja

I am not 100% sure if you would go through the consul for this? But I do know that marriages and divorces are registered on the birth certificates of the individuals (good idea -eh).
Either way, you might want to consult a Colombia Lawyer. Hope this is helpful

they are communicating, no problem there, and there is no US marriage yet, there is only a foreign marriaged between two colombians registered at the colombian consulate, the divorced was granted there too not in colombia, one of them is thinking of getting married to a US citizen but the marriage hasn't taken place, they would have to deal with this matter beforehand, and yes you're right the marriages in colombia are registered on their birth certificates, what a pain in the ass! anyway, they are solving this problem now, wont take long than a week, an exequator of foreign judgements or somethin like that, not too sure yet but thanks for your help

We have a Colombian Lawyer on the forum....

Esteban, he's pretty reliable and checks in every once in a while....

He's LawyerCO on the forum, you can find him probably through a post or through the travelers list and send him a PM... He's really good at responding...

What is your main concern. Immigration to the USA. Immigration to Colombia?

As far as the US and immigrations she will have to show that she was divorced. As mentioned if registered in Colombia the marriage will show on the back of her birth certificate. I doubt it would be an issue for US immigrations if you can show the divorce certificate.

As to time, it took my wife about thirty days and $300 dollars to get her divorce. It could have gone faster. It mostly depends on the two parties getting the divorce.

They will not be committing bigamy.

I don't know what issues would arrive if this couple should decide to reside in Colombia. You have not been to clear.

True Lp - a bit cryptic. Wow...$300.00 you got a deal.

Negrita - Maybe if you were a bit more specific on the desired outcome?
