I used my Sprint phone and worked great for calls but to pricey could not afford...Went to Comcel for prepaid phone which I still have for over a year...Cheaper to forward your calls then using roaming...

I have the same story as panthdave. I used to have sprint and when roaming it got a good signal in colombia. I never used it though because I was affraid I would get outrages international charges on my next bill. I did however get a phonecall and the person had no idea that I was in colombia. I can't remember if I was charged international for that short incoming call but I'm sure I was.

$2.00 a minute is pretty expensive especially since most internet cafes have international calling for just over a dollar a minute. (600 pesos a minute I think.) $2 a minute will add up really fast.

Doc remember plus tax...1.99 a minute...is Sprint Roaming..prices...You can forward with Sprint at .21 a minute plus there forwarding fee..Even that is high but better than roaming...Screw that somebody wants to call me they can pay the price and call my Comcel number or they can call my Vonage Number and wait to I am in my apartment...

Trust me you will not like your bill at the end of the month..Even if your loaded its a waste of money..My case I just cannot afford that...

Dave, as previously mentioned by me on another thread last week....

You can have your Vonage line (with US number) simul-ring to your Comcel cell phone. 18 cents a minute Vonage charges - incoming calls on Comcel, free, being able to conduct business in cafe in Colombia while your associates think they are just calling you on your cell in US - priceless.

You are already paying for Vonage and simulring rings your Vonage phone in your apartment and your cell at the same time. When this happens I pick up my Vonage phone - no charge. Or if I am on the street I pick up my cell - 18 cents.

The only thing is it might be advantageous to have your Vonage Voicemail pick up before the Comcel voicemail. Not a big deal and easily controllable. Or you can personalize your Comcel greeting - however there is still some Spanish heard by the caller and if you are trying to conduct business and don't want to raise the "Where am I calling this guy, why is his phone giving me this Spanish stuff" eyebrow....

There is nothing like being able to take calls from the US on your Colombian cell for 18 cents a minute and no charge for the caller. I suspect that the 18 cents price will come down in the future.

EDIT: The Vonage phone/router can be in the US or like me, in my apartment in Colombia.

Don't use your foreign cell phone network in Colombia. Get your phone unlocked in Colombia and put in a local sim card. It is surprisingly easy. Forward your calls if you still need a number outside of Colombia.

Forwarding your calls from your US cellphone number to your Colombia cell phone still costs over $2.00 a minute. I think the point is to save money.

That's the only way to go. Of course you never told us of your phone calls would be from Colombia to Colombia. Or from Colombia to the US or the US to Colombia. I never really answered you question directly but have been talking about this Vonage forwarding with Panther Dave on another thread.

Roc not really...with Sprint .21 International colombia cell call with 4.00 plan plus .20 for Call Forwarding Service which is .41 Cents a minute which is still expensive and your inbound call is free to your Comcel number or do a double forward Sprint to Vonage and Vonage to Colombia Cell phone which then is .20 for the Call Forwarding sErvice from Sprint plus the international charge from Vonage..that call will not be clear its a double forward call...via VOIP>>>>>I think other Cell providers other than Sprint in USA don't charge for call forwarding don't know..

For making international calls from Colombia, I LOVE skype out, calls are less than 2 cents a min. to land lines and about 5 cents to mobiles. The line quality is usually good too.
