I think I heard these terms in Perú or Chile. I get confused by Spanish regionalisms.

Vivo means sharp, astuto, espabilado...

Listo means bright, witty, despierto, agudo...

Hmm, better wait for a native speaker on this one. I am probably mixing up subtleties.

Sometimes when someone is really slow in understanding something, people say
"Tan aveja" sarcastically or else call you a "lenteja" a lentil but in this context means "slow".

Lucas Freley says on Oct 30, 2007, 15:21:

Ser avispado, somethings it´s related to be "smart". Somebody who take the best on his own interest in any situation. Been "inteligente" it´s just about knowledge or skillful in some areas. As for example, a boy who tell a lie to his mon in front of some´s mothers aquintace to earn some money it´s "avispado". Why? becouse he knows that she won´t refuse. But save that money instead in waisted in little things turn him into a "inteligent" fella.
