Purchasing Windows XP Español in Colombia

Hi everyone,

This is my first forum post - I've read quite a few threads over the last few months, and I decided to jump into the pool.

I'm meeting my Colombiana girlfriend in Cuba for a vacation in 9 days, and as a surprise I'm bringing her a used laptop I found. Now computers and high tech is my area, but I ran into an unexpected problem - turns out it's virtually impossible to actually buy Windows XP Home in Español in the US, as nobody carries it. Claudia and her family are generally spanish only (my spanish is a work in progress), so I'm left wondering - does anyone have experience with buying XP in Español in Colombia? I'm trying to gauge both price and how easy it is to find an actual (legit) copy.

In case you're wondering, yes I certainly am aware that I can easily get a pirate version, but as this laptop will be in a home with non-experts, and I'll be too far away to provide any sort of support, I thought it was worth it to get the legit versions of at least the OS and a virus scanner. I'm thinking now that I can give her the money to buy Windows in Colombia when she returns (I'm sure her brother can install it) - I just don't want this to be one of those gifts that ends up costing the recipient money.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any comments,

Barry

Have you checked with any retailers in Miami? I think Tiger Direct used to offer it online.

Try Here (there are lots) Here are a couple of sites:

My daughter has brought us Spanish versions from World Language Resources who are authorized Microsoft retailers in California. What you want is priced at about $300 USD. You can call them at
1-800 900-8803 or check www.worldlanguage.com/Products/46067.htm

Also Gateway sells a Spanish version but I do not know if it be purchased "free" standing.
