Purchasing Air Tickets to Colombia

My family and I will be traveling to Colombia in June of this year. I will be traveling by Avianca from Los Angeles to Bogota. We are traveling with a toddler so I think Avianca is our best choice because they are the only airline that offers a direct flight from L.A. I was looking at prices on avianca.com for the dates that we plan to travel, each ticket costs $711 (includes taxes and fees). Since I do not travel that often I wanted to find out from others if this is a good deal or if I should wait for Avianca to offer a promotional airfare. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Rule 1. Always call Avianca reservations direct-you might be surprised
Rule 2. Check COPA, one stop in Panama City, Panama. RT fare in June currently USD $1,587.10 June including taxes, for all three.

(FYI one adult is $582 USD)

This is Panama's national carrier and a GREAT airline-The Transfer in PTY has always been
great for us.

Colombiano Divino. Yes this is by far the best I have ever found. I flew last October and had to fly Air Tran to Fort Lauderdale and then the next day take Spirit to Bogota and it was $1100. Luckily my wife has cousins in West Palm Beach so we spent the night there.

I hope the price holds up 2 more weeks because I can not confirm my vacation dates until March 1. It would suck to get my days off when I want and then the price go up.

Normally its high out of Pittsburgh because it isn’t a big hub city.
Try Kayak.com
OMG... I just looked again while I was writing this and now Continental dropped there price to $439.. Price War… lol… I may have to take my chances and book today..

Thank you all for your advice. I just went ahead and bought the tickets through Avianca. It appears I am not going to get a better deal on a direct flight. Last year we flew American through a Miami and we had a lot of problems ie. lost baggage, flight delays, etc. So hopefully this year it will go a lot smoother.

If you were not booking for a busy season ticket, I would have waited until maybe 6 weeks before the departure date. The airlines drop their ticket prices when they have unfilled seats available. Your departure date is a busy time, so they will fill your plane without dropping the price.

Total Price : 342.29 British pounds = 494.369447 U.S. dollars

I took 10 June until 30 june, but the date isn't SO important.
It's with Spirit airlines, it is a lowcost airline,
Because it isn't Avianca, there is a litlle stopphover hat Ft. Lauderdale. ( 3h and back 2h )

If you don't like lowcost, Continental is an option for 409.60 British pounds = 591.58528 U.S. dollars.

Check : www.alternativeairlines.com, UK website, but with VISA or MASTERCARD you can book from everywhere.
