I have been following this site for about a month and i have enjoyed many of the topics written here..I was born and raised in the States (NYC), Both my parents left Colombia for obvious reasons a better life.........which they have provided.......but i haven't return to Colombia since the age of 12....23 years ago, My mother is from bucaramanga (hope i spelled that correctly....but i have great memories of puerto colombia...........i remember my grandfather taking me on many bus routes that he managed (at his time he had a fleet of buses stationed in puerto colombia i also remember my grandmother's ice cream parlor (rico helado) and my aunt had a grocery store/bakery called rico pan... i haven't stayd in touch with my family, since the passing of both grandparents....they were my highlights of many of my summers...and i'm really considering making a trip down memory lane......Many of my aunts and uncles have already passed....so i don't know what to expect......but i can't find any web sites that can help me guide myself in puerto colombia.........i could stay in bquilla and drive down but i was looking for a hotel or a place to stay at puerto colombia......So before i consider my journey...if anyone has a link to this small town outside bquilla, please forward it to me.....i can't even find a directory to this town.......

Miguel says on Aug 21, 2005, 18:48: Sobre Puerto Colombia It is very much a party town for curramberos that want to get a little on the side without getting caught, which is the English translation of what a currambera told me.

elmodefoque says on Aug 22, 2005, 08:57: Only a special breed enjoys a place like Puerto Colombia, a beach town west of Barranquilla. The best way to describe Puerto Colombia is to close you eyes and imagine South Beach, Miami, now quickly think of the exact opposite, dusty, a couple old buildings, run down shacks, loud, hot and humid with a lotta ugly broke ass modefoques, but with all that, still is my favorite place to hang out on Sundays. This is the best place to go and eat mojorra frita, patacones y arroz con coco, cold beer, y una botella de aguardiente from the many restaurants or big huts right on the beach. Extremely loud music is coming from gigantic size 12 X12 feet speakers. Unlike South Beach, in Puerto Colombia, you throw your fish bones right on the dark filthy sand. Moscas are always present and they will fly and land to take a dump all over your food. The second you look away you’ll see dozens of flies doing Greg Louganis type dives into your drink. My love for Puerto Colombia goes back many, many years from the age of 7 when I talked my friend into walking there. We had no bus fair and unlike jumping on the back of buses in Barranquilla, in this longer trips the chauffer will get outta the bus with a machete and try to hack your broke ass to pieces if you don’t get off his bus. It took us almost the entire day walking from el barrio abajo to Puerto Colombia. We walked on the side of the road with buses speeding by, throwing dust all over us. You ever see kids with brown sweat and black rings around their necks, well, that’s caused by a combination of dust and sweat. Another thing to deal with is the street dogs that you find in different communities (group of run down shacks) they love to chase strangers, once they see unfamiliar faces they all get up and chase your ass down the street and the only thing to do is run modefoque run, or you could stand and hit the leader of the pack with a 2x4 across the head. Funny thing about getting hit with a 2x4, once you get hit and see little stars and a trickle of blood coming from your head, it make you and others stop and think. As soon as the other dogs see and hear the painful shriek coming from their leader they all stop and return to their shade to continue licking their balls while the leader cries in agony. over 5 million colombianos in USA and only 27 barranquilleros, i'm one.Curramba, el mejor vividero del mundo! |

bulawil says on Aug 22, 2005, 19:11: re: Puerto Colombia Thanks carolain11 for the hotel pradomar information in puerto colombia, I google it and found there web site: http://hotelpradomar.com/hotel.htm, I tried calling for rates and information on the hotel since the website is limited on information but I only got a rapid busy signal….if anyone has information on this hotel or recommend another it would be greatly appreciated….Miguel thanks for describing Puerto as a party town for curramberos(?????) that want to get a little on the side without getting caught. Sound great don’t know the English translation of curramberos….but who cares it sounds like my kind of town….elmodefoque I go to SOB every chance I get and to imagine Puerto to be the total opposite…that is definitely a sight for sore eyes, but to eat mojorra frita, patacones y arroz con coco, cold beer, y una botella de aguardiente in my dads home town will bring back a lot of memories, I’ll take my chances… I’ll continue to plan my jouney back, if anyone has additional information that can help it would be appreciated. As I know I’ll seek for your help. i'm still looking for a directory for this town....

elmodefoque says on Aug 23, 2005, 05:54: Another thing about Puerto Colombia, middle class kids go there late at night to blast music from their car radios and get drunk into the wee hours. Is also a great place to take your girl friend when there’s no money for a hotel room. You roll around the beach, that’s if you don’t mind chucha con tierra. over 5 million colombianos in USA and only 27 barranquilleros, i'm one.Curramba, el mejor vividero del mundo! |
