Promise rings in colombia

Are promise rings common in colombia as they are in the us? I have decided i would like to buy my boyfriend one to symbolize our relationship and future together, its kindof a pre engagement ring, but if they arnt common, it would easily be mistaken for an engagment ring, thats not something our families are ready for, any advise?

promise ring They are somewhat common but normally the boyfriend gives it to the girlfriend. I think it really depends on where you live and what kind of relationship you two have. If you live outside Colombia, I'd say go ahead, none is going to judge you. but if you live there, it looks a little wierd coming from the girl and it might be mistaken for something else.
