Power of Attorney to open a bank account

I'm not in Colombia right now, but would like to open a bank account using power of attorney. Is this even possible?

Contact your nearest Colombian Consulate and ask them. They may even have a process for this.

I would go ahead and contact the bank directly. Are you a Colombian citizen or atleast have a cedular? if not, even if you were here it is difficult to get an account.

No Cédular likely problems.

Not impossible but very unlikely.

With Colombia's "know your client" laws, why would they open an account for someone who doesn't even show up? It would have to be a very compelling amount of business you want to bring to the bank, and a lot of supporting documentation.

It will be a lot easier if you show up in person and have a valid visa and cedula. It will be even easier if you avoid Colombian banking altogether.

que nota!

You are not going to get a cedula for a long time and you can't open a bank account without it.. Even if you get married , you are going no where fast..

Now , don't go putting all your money in your fiance band account or you will not have to worry about a prenup..lol

Firstly, do a search and PBH and you will find loads of info on opening bank accounts for foreigners... Have to warn you though that most of the news is bad, as even with a cedula you will still be refused (as I was by a number of banks). If you have a personal introduction from a native however your chances are greatly enhanced. (My wife´s cousin vouched for us in Banco de Credito and we had an account in a day!).

Bizarrely however, I was able to open an account in Davivienda after 1 week in Colombia! with just my Irish passport!! no cedula...but again here my (Colombian) wife had a banking history with Davivienda, which brings me back to the need for a native to vouch for you...

Wouldn't know to be honest poker, (but I'd want to be very happy with the lawyer I'd get before I'd go granting power of attorney over bank accounts!!)
