NO MORE complicity of government officials with illegal armed forces
NO MORE abuse by elements of the armed forces
NO MORE massacres
NO MORE kidnappings
NO MORE forced displacement
NO MORE targeted assassinations
NO MORE extrajudicial killings
NO MORE forced disappearances
NO MORE arbitrary detentions
NO MORE impunity for military and paramilitary officials
NO MORE death squads
NO MORE state sponsored terror

We march for PEACE as long as it is dignified and just. We march for LIBERTY and JUSTICE for all Colombians.

Please join us Monday, February 4 2008 10:30 am at South First and Barton Springs: we will march to City Hall.

cassini77: Indeed, that was decided by the PDA a couple of days ago. It's not a march but rather a "concentration", for lack of a better word.

Hardly changes anything about the actual marches or other events that will also take place that day though.

Monpirri : Everyone and anyone is, of course, free to march for whatever they want, so that's just fine by me.

On the other hand...I don't know if there's too much of a need to comment any further, but...while I still think the general intention is admirable , perhaps the description of the march and its slogans are ...a bit too redundant or, alternatively, concentrated in one direction (guess which)....while still claiming to be more "inclusive".

That's all quite possible, of course, and deserves to be respected just as much as any other such event...but I'd think that the point of making a more general march, so to speak, as opposed to particular marches (such as the one against FARC, or one only against paramilitarism, etc.) is to be more comprehensive, not to march against everything BUT focus in one direction at the same time. Kind of defeats the purpose, in my eyes at least....unless there are very specific demands for all sides, for example, not only one or two towards a certain side.

Again, that's mostly a personal comment. Doesn't really have any impact, nor does it need to. In the end, all protests deserve the same respect, even if one doesn't fully agree with everything in or around them (I'm sure I probably won't agree with *everything* in the FARC march either, for whatever it's worth).

Sr Tertius says on Feb 1, 2008, 17:39:

My wish, of course, is that there was a single march or demonstration, on the basis of an agreement that includes the rejection of the forms of violence listed by Colombianos in UT. I also wish there was an explicit rejection of support from ANY of those involved in the armed conflict: FARC, paracos (or supposedly ex-paracos), and government. Instead, what we have is a march supported by "ex"-paracos and government, and a demonstration supported by FARC (and by supported I don't mean exclusively, only that they have shown support).

Those are, however, my very personal wishes. My respects to everyone.

T, how much of the support for the anti-FARC march comes from ex or supposedly ex-paracos as a percentage of the total? Just curious as you happened to throw that tidbit in, I imagine it must be a large percentage of the total, no?

Sr Tertius says on Feb 1, 2008, 20:35:

No, it's probably just very marginal, thus my disclaimer. Same thing for the FARC support for the earlier demonstration. But even if it is 0.0001%, it should be rejected outright.

I agree since it contaminates the effort and gives those that are against the march peripheral talking points.

But, I'm going to start making some assumptions here.... Which means I might actually end up making an ass out of myself ..........Thu 04 17, 2008 11:34 am
