Obvisouly many other areas need attention and investment. But his focus has been getting rid of these chuchas and this has allowed for all the progress Colombia has done.

Is there room for improvement? absolutely. but uribe is the only president with balls that i can recall in colombia who has confronted this issue head on.

i wont even adress the ridiculous corrupt and paraco agenda that the guerrila supporters have placed on him. they are traitors and anti colombian like la negra cordoba and el mono jojoy

Mitch, I think saying those who don't like uribe are guerrilleros is a very strong statement, not to say an extremely dangerous one. Jose Obdulio Gaviria was very criticised for saying something very similar, to the point that now he is denying it all "it was a misunderstanding". I think every Colombian has the right to criticize their government, I do it all the time and believe there are more pressing issues than the FARC, and Uribe is not the right person to deal with these issues. I don't how that would ever make me a guerrilla supporter.
I agree with whoever said most people approve of him, but you have to look at the arguments put forward by those who do not...they're all highly respected academics with impeccable records and better understanding of Colombia's rule of Law than most. Just a thought.

Let me explain: Last time I checked FARCs numbers were around 8k people, which is less than 0.5% of the Colombian population. Que tanto conoces de la plataforma politica de los candidatos? O de los programas de bienestar social del gobierno (educacion, salud, pensiones)? Ser buen Colombiano no es salir a rasgarse las vestiduras y defender al gobierno a capa y espada, ni tampoco es ponerse la manillita con la bandera de Colombia... Ser buen Colombiano es viajar y mantener el nombre del pais en alto, con un comportamiento sobrio y una actitud tolerante o votar sabiendo que delegar es una responsabilidad enorme. No se tu como definas que es ser buen Colombiano pero por tu comentario sobre "no uribista= Farc" me das a entender que es de hecho una posicion bastante superficial...no se.

I'm not Colombian, nor do I live there, but I was thinking along the lines of Rubito. Uribe came in at the right time with the right approach against the FARC. It wasn't that long ago when the Colombian govt. was seen as a very weak, ineffective institution, "corrupt" may still apply however.

Nevertheless, the next president is going to need a more comprehensive program to deal with Colombia's toughest and longest-running challenges. . . working on top of the security foundation the Uribe admin. has established.

Nunca he dicho que la oposicion no sabe hablar ni escribir. Al contrario he conocido muchos liberales, conservadores, democratas, republicanos, comunistas, socialistas, capitalistas, y lo que sea, que saben hablar y escribir muy bonito.

pero yo evaluo el contenido del argumento no que tan bonito lo expliques.

entre gustos no hay disgustos........... y mi gusto es ver a mi tierra libre de las hp guerillas y un pais prosperando. para otros es otras cosas......
