Political hypocrisy

Everyone has their own views on how a country should be run and who are "the bad guys". Whether you're a socialist fighting the imperialists, a capatilist against the liberals. or a mujadeen fighting the great satan, you have your opinion and your welcome to it. I respect that.

What I can't stand, is the political hypocrisy that is so en vogue now days with many nations and leaders. For example, from a report on the recent meeting of latin american nations at the new Bank of the South meeting:

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega joined Chavez in his criticism of U.S.-style capitalism, saying "the dictatorship of global capitalism ... has lost control." Three days earlier, Ortega had shouted "Long live the U.S. government" as he inaugurated an American-financed section of highway in his country.

I accept that the U.S. has done some pretty chitty stuff in the past and continues to do it in its role as "world police" (for those on the other side of the coin that's pronounced imperialists). But if these countries/leaders really feel that strongly then they should have the fortitude to cut all aid relations as well.

I'm just tired of seeing my taxes go to help someone that is calling me a imperialist gringo at the same time they have their hand out.

Our own US Government are a Bunch of Suckers also for Continuing this Aid to countries in the Americas, Including Colombia. Nothing against helping Colombia but I think we have done our FAIR Share; the AID in PC was not meant to continue forever and now that security has improved, Pull the Plug! Like what is done when a Mother Gives Birth-Cut that damn Umbelical! I would pull the Plug on all of it and use the Money here at home. For INSTANCE, I would take a few Billion of it and adequately Fund our Veteran's Administration System and VA Hospitals--they (our Vets, of which I am one) would certainly appreciate it more then these Nations in the Americas. Take Care of Our OWN in need first and our Veterans are a good place to start,,,The VA System was shorted like $1.3 Billion last year and after a lot of Pressure it was finally re-inserted. If ya start a War, you have to take care of the Vets when they come home all busted up as a result of Battle,,,,

Hey mike,,, you oughta know that all these 'gifts' have many strings attached, and they are all designed to protect your ass financially and politically. These are your elected representatives and given that they may seem off target at times, they are answerable to you... the voters. Look at the BIG picture..

Terry2---Tasco--Ron Paul is one of the more Plainspoken Candidates out there but his trouble is, He's too Honest and the Higher-ups in Both parties don't want someone like him. They cannot control him so he would never do! The more experienced CANDIDATES in both Parties have either hit the Dust or soon will. Then we are left with the Candidates the Party Big wigs choose for us, not the ones we want. Or the ones that may be best for America,,,BTW, Anything wrong with my idea of taking some of that foreign aid money and giving it to the Vets for their Healthcare? We could pull the Plug on the Aid $$$ going to Nicaragua and Ortega also,,,

Geez louise...I can't believe people are still using the word "imperialist". I thought that went out with the “dubie. It is always amusing to hear people call the U.S. an “imperialist country. I don’t see the U.S. or its people trying to conquer anyone and I don’t see the U.S. trying to subordinate other countries and its peoples. After writing this paragraph I am preparing to duck the hailstorm of rebuttal, but think about what imperialism means before launching. Why do so many South Americans want to emigrate to the U.S., Canada, UK, etc.? Why? Hey…why not France?

I do see the U.S. trying to find outlets for its economic polices that keeps the U.S. economy going and its people working just like any other country would. Sure they try to influence and maybe they try to hard and end up thinking that they can control someone or something.

Try answering this question. (it has already been discussed very widely in journals, economic forums and the like) just what would happen in the world if the U.S. economy broke down or only the U.S. were hit with a serious depression? What would happen to 90% of the other countries in the world? (the depression in the 20’s was world wide so don’t use this example.) Think about what just happened last week…some asshole frog fraudulently traded over $7billion USD in bogus trades. The U.S and other countries were able to survive this hit because of their economic strength. And what was France/s response? Ooppss, sorry.

When it comes to economics I readily admit, that am not the best place for information, but it always shows how intellectually weak a person is when they try and use outdated and misinformed terms like “imperialist. The UK in the 1800-1900’s was an imperialist by definition. So was France, Portugal and others. Oh, and let’s not rule out modern China, currently the world’s largest imperialist nation.

The U.S.? Certainly no saint and guilty of some really stupid stuff in the past, but better than the alternatives, if so let me know. As I see it, most countries, e.g., Colombia enjoy the relationship with the U.S. Colombia produces and sells products to us and we produce and sell products to them. Also, ask yourself were Venezuela would be without Colombian products? Where are they now with all of their oil wealth? Standing in line waiting for bread and milk for their children. I am sure there is someone in here with some good economic sense can discuss this much better than I can.

I can give one economic reason...Bush. Although I am an American and an independent politically, what Bush did in attacking Iraq was criminal even though a majority of Democrats and Republicans voted for the attack. This event provides a one word rational on why America is disliked. Arrogance. Also, jealousy. Whether it is war, the CIA crap that goes on unchecked, or "buy my stuff cheap or else." The contious arrogance the U.S. government displays makes people think twice. But in the end...they still want to go to America. Why? I like it in Armenia better than in Colorado.
