Nancy Patricia Guitierrez

Juancegomez, do you know what is all this about?

http://www.partidoliberal.org.co/root/index.php

Nancy Patricia Guitierrez, Senate President
Policarpa Salavarrieta, colombian heroin from Guaduas

http://www.elpais.com.co/historico/sep212007/OPN/opi01.html

I didn't see the first article on the Liberal Party site. Since it is from their site, I would be inclined to ignore it as with any propaganda on a political party's website.

The second article is pretty old and she has done a lot more to piss off the Colombian public since then. The portion you quoted makes the article almost seem favorable to Cordoba while this is not the case. I find it interesting that after the section you selectively quoted, the author says this.

This is a good point and one of the reasons many hate Cordoba. She has done a lot to try and legitimize the farc. She seems to ignore that these are criminals who have never negotiated in good faith and have never done anything for altruistic reasons. Anything they do, including releasing hostages, is a calculated and cynical move with ulterior motives.

The author's final statement says it well.

Frankly, I don't understand how can someone still want to talk about Piedad Cordoba.
After her last intervention at the Venezuelan parliament and the pathetic show at the last American Cumbre, she lost any credibility. If she still had one.
Sin verguenza.

Well. The El Pais article was from September, so it's not too timely, and the other was from her party's website, so of course they are going to talk about her.

Not being a fan of piedad cordoba does not make one a machista nor does it mean that one is against women's rights. You often make the mistake of making incorrect assumptions about people's beliefs based on your preconceived notions. You seem to misguidedly believe that anyone who does not share all of your views is incapable of being a just and reasonable person when it comes to social issues.

I am also glad that Colombia has strong, virtuous and hard-working women. It seems that in many areas, women tend to be more educated and are advancing well in the job market. I know many Colombian women who are successful leaders in business and their communities. Those are the type of women I respect, not manipulative politicians like cordoba.

You got that right. To err is human.

Well. I mean that it is stupid to suggest that someone who disagrees with a particular politician who happens to be female is automatically a machista troglodyte who believes women should be barefoot and pregnant. Being anti-cordoba and pro women's rights are not mutually exclusive sets of beliefs.

I don't think Piedad Córdoba would be where she is if she hadn't been smart enough. The thing is she got too greedy and started making the wrong choices just to become a candidate for the presidency (as much as she wants to deny it). And now she's paying for her mistakes.

That has been said of Ingrid Betnacourt as well, I guess is not a fair comment, "le salio el tiro por la culata"

You can't compare Ingrid Betancourt with Piedad Córdoba. I've never heard of Ingrid trying to legalize and standing up for the FARC as the other one has. Yes, she tried to stand out by making a very bold and very stupid move, but never befriended the enemy.

http://www.eltiempo.com/politica/2008-04-19/ARTICULO-WEB-NOTA_INTERIOR...
