Poblado vs. Candelaria ?

First of all, thanks for your advice on my trip to Cali last Nov. I stayed at the Cali Plaza which was recommended here. With the only caveat being the noise from the Barril bar at the corner, I give the Cali Plaza a thumbs up. Now, I got a 1st time visit to Medellin coming up.

Did some online research, and I see a lot of furnished apartment rentals available in the Poblado area. . . and a few in a neighborhood called Boston which I believe is part of La Candelaria, according to the maps I've downloaded.

Question is: should I play it safe and stay in Poblado. . . or would a place in La Candelaria leave me closer to nightlife and/or places of interest to see during the day?

The places in Candelaria appear to be a cheaper rent (medellin24.com) and closer to the city center, but just curious what would you recommend for a first-time visitor to the city? (For me, saving money is not as important as convenience and safety.)

Thanks in advance for any advice/comments/wisdom you have to offer!

El Poblado Stay in El Poblado, it's the best area in the city and much safer than the downtown area. Most good restaurants, bars, clubs, Malls are located in the El Poblado district.

Torre Poblado is 3 blocks from Parque Lleras Torre Poblado is very nice and only 3 blocks from Parque Lleras.
Tons of restuarants, clubs, bars, and eye candy in this area.

There are several options in the Poblado area: hostals, luxory hotels(Dann Carlton) apartments, and 2 mansions where you can get ANYTHING you want.

If you are looking for something more specific, please let me know
