I have participated in many forums on PBH about Race. That is why I have posted the Videos. The Videos answer many questions that have been posted in those forums. The interest is there. The problem as I see it is The Videos show colombians talking about race and race relations. I gather that it is more likely that people won't comment because they won't argue with the colombians in the video saying
"yes there is racism in colombia". The topic will come up again in another forum,and the forum will cease when a video is posted. Thank you goin_ for your input. It is much appreciated. I will post the Vids again one day and I hope it will prompt discussion. For the moment I have learned much from PBH members that ignore the post. That the topic is only worth discussion in PBH if there are no facts to back the topic. So no I don't get it. I will continue to post the videos and invite people to discuss them. To educate them no more or less. If they want to stay awy from the topic they can stay away. If they want to view and discuss they can do that as well. Swinn88, all due respect, but I wouldn't refer to the members lack of response to your video as them not knowing as much about Colombia as they profess. I still haven't watched the video myself. The title of your thread is "Please comment on these videos." That didn't interest me, and I had no idea what the videos were about, based on the thread title. I would guess that is the same for a lot of the people skimming through the threads. I would suggest a better thread title like, "Video on racism in Colombia", or something to that effect.

I too have participated in the past with threads dealing with the racism issue in Colombia. There were lots of people that admitted that racism was bad in Colombia. In my little corner of the country, I didn't see that much. I never heard the word "nigger" when I was in Colombia ... but I was only in the north Meta and a limited time in Bogota. Obviously, the coast must be much different. I just asked my wife if she understood the "n" word, or had heard of it. She was clueless what I was asking and I just told her it was a terrible word. She is a rola by birth and raised a llanera. The rasicm that I saw in Villavo was towards Indians. The word indio was considered an insult.

It never occurred to me until I read this thread, but something crossed my mind. I met several blacks in Villavicencio. A lot of the guys I met were on the Villavicencio men's softball team. They were also all originally costenos. Yet, they all had lived for a long time in Villavo, Acacias, Granada, etc in the Meta. I wondered why they had all ended up in the Llano since they were from the coast. Perhaps because the racism is much worse on the coast? Just a thought, and I certainly don't know personally. The guys I knew were all gainfully employed and doing quite well. Their wives were blancas. I never gave it a thought at the time, and nobody else seemed to think it was an issue. My wife's aunt is married to a black guy (she's blanca), and they live in Granada and own the business, "Techniplus", which is an appliance repair company. My only point is that I am trying to show that there might not be that much racism in that area of Colombia towards blacks... at least I didn't get to see it if there was. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth.

I understand your views on the subject however, I would like you to watch the video and tell me what you think. Its only about 4 1/2 Minutes long. Racism abounds in all parts of this world. In some places it is less visable as in your case. Consider this...I have never seen anyone be killed in Colombia but it happens, I know it happens, Just like racism no matter how much or little you see of it. Let's not pick this apart and say it's here and not there or they have more racism than the others because ultimately It effects all of us no matter where we live. After many heated discussions on PBH about racism I find it odd that when videos are posted, Videos of afro-colombians and indio-colombians themselves saying "yes there is racism and no we don't have the same opportunities as our white counterparts", We shut up. When there is no evidence we Say there is no racism, The USA is worse, we are one race in colombia, or it's class discrimination not race. The evidence is in the videos and these people experience it. These people are colombians. Do we know more about it than they? We should discuss it we should learn from them and stop making baseless assumptions. So...PLEASE watch the videos I have posted and tell us what you think. Tell us what you did not know and now know. Tell us what you knew and are glad to see it getting some attention. Watch the video. They are all very educational and interesting. The best thing about them is that it is Colombia.
