What.... What do you mean "Mardi Gras"?...the Plaza Mayorista is the largest market in the city, it's a huge area where smaller supermarkets and even large supermarkets buy mostly vegetables, grains, etc. The largest distributors are located there. At night..., mmm, wait, you probably mean the surrounding area, it's full of small hotels, cheap hotels, cheap restaurants.

Majorista Memoirs

Great shopping in the Majorista during the day. I use Carniceria AA and buy flowers there if I don't feel like going to the flower plaza in central Medellin. At night though..... Well if you are on the NW corner you have 2 blocks of street party with hookers going on in front of seedy 1/2 hr rate motels and with a few (surprisingly good) local restaruants/bars. If you are on the NE corner there is a fairly new club called Universal from the owners of the wildly popular Mangos just south on the autopista. This club is nice with a las vegas style, city building facade, constructed inside. They say they are more dedicated to electronic music here. Very different corners at night for the Majorista area.
