We live in Armenia and are interested in driving our car to Tayrona N.P. and back. The car trip is part of the journey. Flying there and renting a car is out, since it would be cheaper to fly to New York City and back. I have not been able to find much information on the availability of rooms in or near the park or quality/safety the road to Tayrona itself. Does anyone have some information they can share with me?
What picture I have seen makes the park look so beautiful. Especially if we can stay in the park itself.

You can try to search for the National Park website and try to make reservations. I have never been there but I know the road to Santa Marta is fine. Mr. Bill Somondoco 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Gator says on Jun 18, 2009, 08:09: There are some private home/fincas for rent as you take the road to the beaches-check the classified section of El Tiempo or one of the real estate agents in Santa Marta. The road from Santa Marta is fine but into the park it's self is somewhat unimproved but perfectly drivable. Take the Carreteria Troncal del Caribe out of Santa Marta(Riohacha Hwy) say about 20 km for a sign on the right that says Nequanje with an arrow pointing left. Look sharp because this road is easy to miss. Go about 3 km to the park entrance and pay the entrance fee-any gringos will pay more so let any Colombians do the talking. Another 14 km and you will reach the beach at Neguanje. If you want to you can stay on the Troncal past Calabazo to Zaino. At that entrance it will lead you back to Cabo San Juan/Arrecifes and other beaches but some of that is reached by foot. say and hours hike. If you are interested in a tour out of El Rodader I can give you the name of a good honest service. "Bene, cum Latine nescias, nolo manus meas in te maculare" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

El Piloto says on Jun 22, 2009, 14:54: How many of you have gotten vaccinations before going to Parque Tayrona? Seems like everyone is recommending vaccinations for yellow fever, typhus, etc. for that part of the coast but wondering how many people really heed that advice...

wwwhitey says on Jun 22, 2009, 16:29: I got my Yellow Fever vaccination for free at a hospital in Barranquilla. My understanding is that it's required before entering the park, but no one on our bus was asked. They were much more interested in who was not Colombian so that they could charge the extranjero fee.
