Places to marry in Cartagena

Hi Everyone.

I am marrying my girlfirend who is colombian in may this year, I am from the UK.
I want to know if anyone has any ideas of a bueatiful place to marry in Cartagena.
We are going to have a civil marriage so not getting married in a church. Is it possible to marry on the beach? and if so, how would we arrange this. We also want to have a part afterwards obviously, but again at the moment dont have any ideas of where to have this, I again have thought about having it on the beach or an hotel or something like that.
I want this to be a special day for us both and one which will be as beautiflu as i can make it.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly welcomed from you. One last thing, to do all of this, what are the costs, is it expensive?
Hope to hear from you soon

Thankyou and Best Regards

Craig

Cartagena Hi Mate,

I just arrived back from Cartagena a few days ago. To be honest if you want to be in proximity of the old colonial town (and not in Bocagrande with unpleasant high rise towers as a backdrop), I would avoid the beach - at least the different segments I saw of it. My inclination would be to have it at one of the two 'good' hotels in town - the Charleston or the Sofitel Santa Clara, with beautiful restaurants, interior courtyards with foliage, etc. The problem is that as these are the only two Western standard good hotels in town, you also tend to pay Western prices for them. But I don't think they will be quite that bad and certainly not as bad as most good places in the UK.

Good luck.

Ditto what Phil said... I'd lean towards the Charleston, but either one would be a class act. I don't imagine either would be cheap, but if you're looking for that special thing...

You might also check hotel Caribe, which has a beautiful garden out back. It was closed off for reconstruction last November, but if it were open and the weather were nice, that also would be a beautiful spot.

Congratulations!

Place to Marry Hi!

I thought having the Manga marina in background would be great for a wedding. How about getting married at the restaurant ajoining the Marina? I don't know the price. Maybe they would let you have a private party!

Hmmm... Surely Greg means Club de Pesca, and not Club Nautico.

That's not a bad idea... if the wedding party is REALLY small. The restaurant, with a reception at the club house... that would be nice on a pretty day, and probably cheaper than the Charleston.

Manga Marina Wedding/Reception Hi!

Since the original posting was considering a beach wedding, I considered money was a factor, so I considered Club Nautico www.clubnauticocartagena.com/ at Calle 20 would be a better location and not Club de Pesca. http://www.clubdepesca.com/home.htm The marina is RIGHT behind Club Nautico and you can see the boats during the day! Of course if the party goes late until the night, walking along the waterfront is SO romantic at either place!

My GF's parents live across the street from Club Nautico. We walked to Club de Pesca with the neighborhood kids at night time. She never even slightly suggested we eat at that restaurant! Their web page reflects that one should not need to look at prices, if going there!

Well Greg... Maybe Craig can get an opinion from his fiance about getting married in Club Nautico. After all, everybody has a different notion of what is classy, expensive, beautiful, etc.

I might host the batchelor party - stripper and all - at Club Nautico. But the wedding? What, with Candalaria getting stoned out on the pavilian and her skank ass family hanging out on the sofa's in the TV lounge watching telenovelas?

That'd be kind of like a Vegas wedding, with a few unshaven cruisers wandering through to add flavor. I'd check to make sure there is toilet paper in the bathrooms before the festivities began...

I just took my girlfriend's family to a nice dinner at Club Nautico two nights ago. The food and service were excellent. As far as romantic, I'd say it wouldn't be a bad place for a wedding. It was very beautiful and peaceful, right on the water... Greg is right that it would be a romantic setting. The price would be reasonable, as well (as weddings go, of course).

Club Nautico Thanks for another perspective Christian!

If the staff tends to be obnoxious, then it might make any place unpleasant for a wedding or just a dinner!

For me, just seeing a marina in the background when I am never around water, seems so unique. I appreciated talking with all of the different people from all the countries and visiting their boats. A few extra guests from the marina could be expected to walk by Club Nautico , since they live there.

Tonight, my GF said she wants to marry & live on a farm in Colombia with me. This sounds so unusal, since Manga is so much different than farm life, but she did pick me up in a Chevy Pickup initially.

I just got married in Cartagena.. I just got back from my wedding in Cartagena and it was amazing. As someone suggested above, we had our reception at the Club de Pesca http://www.clubdepesca.com/. It was very intimate (we had about 30 people at our reception), the food was amazing, and it's right on the water.

In regards to price, it's a lot more reasonable than having a reception in the US (In your case the UK). If you'd like to check out my pics and see the reception site go to: http://malusarios.photosite.com/Album2/

Craig, if you would like more information, send me a message. I did a ton of research and my parents live there. I would be happy to help!

Buena Suerte!

What a BEAUTIFUL bride. Congratulations!

I really enjoyed your photo album. I see you got married in the church out by Casa Rafael Nunez... it's got a pretty neat look. And Club de Pesca was definitely a classy choice for the reception... looks like they treated you right.

How did you meet that stunning babe? Thanks for sharing the moment with us!

Thank you! Westelandlive,

Thanks for the compliment! Yes, we got married at La Ermita del Cabrero. The chruch was so quaint and we even had a priest that performed half of the ceremony in English (since my husband is American).

Are you asking how I met my stunning husband? hehehe...

It's my pleasure to share my experience. I used this board to get a lot of tips when I was planning my wedding.

Oh! You're the stunning babe... So the appropriate question would have been, "do you have a sister?"

I should have known that no heterosexual male would have a handle like, "love to sing."

Congrats again.

Me too!! Felicidades to lovetosing920! we just got engaged last month, and we have been looking to get married in Cartagena too. We like the Santa Clara but I don't know any prices. I was told that to hire a wedding coordinator is the best we can do, and it is not too expensive. Is that true? and if so, does anyone knows somebody I can contact?
Gracias!

colgir10 Some of the nicer hotels have on-site wedding coordinators. Go to: http://www.hotelsantaclara.com/inweddin.htm. Email the hotel santaclara at hotelsantaclara.com and ask them for rates and if they have an on-site wedding coordinator.

Good luck and congratulations!

Lovetosing... what's the name of that church, and what denomination is it? I'm guessing Catholic, but just want to be sure.

Wedding legalities Hi Lovetosing, Can you tell me how you legalized your marriage in the U.S. My fiance & I are both American, but my family is in Colombia so we are hoping to get married in Cartagena in Dec. I understand that you need complicated paperwork. Would your bilingual priest officiate a wedding on the beach? I loved your wedding photos!
Any information you can give me would be appreciated.

Have the wedding on the wall. I was walking around the Centro on a recent Saturday night and noticed that someone was haveing a private party on the wall just east of the south entrance. Perhaps you can have the wedding there. The security is pretty good because thay would only let guests through the gate to go on the wall.

Wedding legalities Dear Mariacolombiana,

My husband and I are American as well and we had to complete a ton of paperwork before getting married in Colombia. The good thing is that your marriage in Colombia will be valid in the US. When you return to the US, you will just have to register your marriage in the court and get certified copies of your marriage certificate.

Go to: http://bogota.usembassy.gov/wwwsmare.shtml It appears that you are getting married through the church so; make sure you read the Roman Catholic Requirements.

In regards to having a Catholic wedding on the beach, I don't think many (if any) priests will do that.

I'd be happy to give you more advise since my situation is very similar to yours. E-mail me at lovetosing920 at yahoo.com

I hope this help!
