Place to stay in Medellin

I am going to Medellin in June or July of 2009 and I want to stay for 3 weeks to a month. I am looking for an apartment or hotel or whatever other private room with a bathroom I can get that does not cost much, I am looking for price ranges of under $500US. I looked online and I saw some apartments but they cost about $1000US a month, which is expensive because in the United States a one bedroom can be as low as $500US a month. I know there are some $5US hotels in Colombia, I have been in one before in Cucuta and it was terrible... plus you do not get to carry the keys with you outside of the hotel, so those are not really an option for me unless there are nice onces in Medellin. Also will a private room in a hostel be good too? I have heard of Casa Kiwi hostel, but I am not sure what a hostel is all about. HELP PLZ!!!

I guess it depends on where you want to stay,, the reason the apartments you've seen cost so much is because they are in "el Poblado" , there are many others in very good neighborhoods which will probably be closer to your budget.

oh that cement is just, it's there for the weight, dear

PBH, I know Diana Restrepo... I rented an apartment from her in 2003/2004 nice lady. Also you may want to check

http://www.apartments-medellin.com/

They have wonderful, completely furnished apartments, nice neighbourhoods, safe, clean, and inexpensive for the length of time you are planning to rent, considenring you do not have to buy furniture. I would be very careful in staying at $5.00 a night places, if you can find one
