place to stay in Bogota

Hello everyone,

I will be going to Bogota in January for my internship. I have most things figured out by now, but housing is still a problem. So, does anyone have some advice for me? I will stay in Bogota for about three months, I need a room or a small appartment. Maybe I need to take a hotel first for about a week, so I can find a room or appartment from there. I will need it to be in El Lago or Chapinero.

Thanks in advance.

I have some advice. Buy low. Sell high. You can't go wrong with that.

Advice You could go to Yellow pages and see where they rent aparments and what they got avaible, there are lots of companies that work with it.
Renting an apartment wil be your best solution.

Where to stay Ask the people where you´re going to be an intern to help you find a place for the first two weeks, then once you´re there try to find a studio or some furnished apt.
Chapinero has some cheap hotels and apartments, it´s a somewhat large area. El Lago is a much more expensive area.
This is a website of hotels all over colombia, you need some spanish to navigate the site:

furnished? I read a lot about renting appartments, being the best alternative. I assume they are all furnished then. What is the quality of the furnishings?

Check the online ads in el Tiempo Have you been there yet??-they list private rentals. Http://www.eltiempo.com

El Tiempo is Bogota's largets daily. If possible let a colombain friend negotiate the rent-they may get a much cheaper rate then you. Seems when some, not all, people like to up the price when they find out you are gringo. Good Luck. Also-many times if you are going to be near a hospital go in and ask the clerk at the hospital if they have a list of landlords in the neighborhood who rent to family members of sick relatives(in-patients)--many hospitals do and they can be pretty reasonable.

En El Norte There're two good options for a week if you can afford it; the Hotel Charlotte (www.charlotehoteles.com)runs for about 119,000 pesos & the probably better suited the Hotel Colonial on the same block & as the previous one. The latter one runs for 98,000.00 pesos. I liked the Charlotte although no Internet access, both close to the transmilenio on 85 calle o carretera, don't rememeber & one block away from a zona rosa.
The Hotel Lourdes on 63rd on Chapinero was a nice cheaper & confortable option, however, the neighborhood -the block where the hotel is- seemed so so to ME. I was told it is very safe though.
Good luck!

Estate agents I would recommend trying to get a flat without having to go through an estate agents as they will want you to provide two references - people who actually live in Colombia and who agree to pay your rent if you don't - and that's VERY hard to get.

Pied a terre This consejo is probably too late to help Inge, but I offer it for anyone in the same position. While you're looking for a permanent flat in Bogotá, here's an "Aparta Hotel" with nice-sized rooms, mini kitchens, 24-hour desk and it's in the "priveleged" part of the city. You can use it as your command center. :-)

Compañía : Aparta Hotel Retiro 84
Dirección : Calle 84 No. 9-95 Esq
Ciudad : Bogotá, D.C.
Departamento : Cundinamarca
Teléfono : +57 (1) 616-1345

I haven't been there in a lo-o-ong time, but they still have a listing in "!Qu'hubo! The Colombian Yellow Pages" which is another resource that might be helpful. It can be found at quehubo dot com slash colombia (http://www.quehubo.com/colombia/)

I don't know how much they charge these days, but when I was there I remember thinking, "These guys are cheaper than a Best Western, with WAY nicer rooms and WAY better service!"

Good luck!

renting a room with a family I will be going to Bogota in June for an internship and would like to rent a room with a family if possible, though I would be willing to consider other options. I will be working in Rosales, but I don't know the city at all and was wondering if you could suggest the best barrio in that area or if anyone knows people in that are that rent rooms. I am a law student and will be there about 5 weeks. Thank you.

Where is exactly the physical location or locations of BCL? I'd like a friend of mine in Bogota to check out the place, but without an actual address it is almost impossible. I went to BCL web site, but only the "barrio" is mentioned with no indication where the locale(s) 's addresses may be.
