Phone configuration to save money in Colombia

There was talk a few months ago about how to save money and how we were playing with phone configuarations down in Colombia...to stay in touch with family, etc..

We just got the phone system shipped down and there is a bit to report...

What we do is this...

1) Skype with DSL (500/500 up/down) at the cali house.

2) Purchase $60 year USA phone number that takes unlimited incoming calls to the Skype number that rings at the Cali computer.

3) SKYPE converter box to convert the digital signal from SKYPE to analog out (PBX, regular phone jack RJ45) so the computer will connect to this box and you can connect a regular phone to the box.

4) Shipped from china to Miami then Cali a super long range phone UHF...that is basically a cordless phone that works on UHF and claimed super long range...

5) Install a 5 meter antenna ontop of our building (8 floors up).

6) The phone gave us about 2 miles range from the apto.

The idea is....your family can call a USA number from the USA....and it rings the computer , thus the skype box and super long range phone and you can be 2 miles from the house talking....

It works just fine....but the range is limited...so..

We just ordered a booster box that we can place on another building with a 5 meter antenna and it's supposed to double the range...

If this works...we'll do up to 5 boosters in the city to give us full range...

We'll see.

The phone is similar to this on ebay...(we have an employee in china and he buys and ships direct to us..)...there are additional booster boxes and handsets you need but this is the basic set up..
