phone card information...

what up everyone -

just wanted to give a quick heads up about a great phone card that i've found online. up until last week i was purchasing phone cards to call colombia (from atlanta) at local gas stations only to have crap customer service, dropped calls, line echoing etc...

anyway, i finally got online and have found a great and relatively inexpensive calling card system. www.pingo.com

with pingo i can recharge my card online without having to drive to get another card, the calls are crystal clear and it's been great so far........

just wanted to let everyone know about it b/c i was going CRAZY with the other cards.

talk to you later -

Another good phone card I have been using Net2Phone for several years and I am also very happy with the service. It's also an Internet based service. From Texas I pay 12 cents per minute to Bogota. You can also have an account online and recharge over the Internet. Go to www.net2phonedirect.com. I wonder if Pingo is cheaper. I would be willing to switch to save money.

did you know that the DOLLAR STORES usually sell those $5 cards for $4 ?

the biggest problem is that you never know what rate you will get, or the hidden connection/hidden maintenance fee.

here is one I recently found, I am still not too sure about them, but if you make really long calls, it seems to work well.

I bought a card that cost $10.00 but the connection fee is $.99 and the talk is UNLIMITED. however I noticed that I got cut off after an hour. I didnt need to redial, however. It asked me for the number again and I put it in and it just picked right up from there.

anyway, ALL the cards have an angle. but at least this seems to work for me since I talk for an hour at a time.

BTW, they have to call you back to verify initially ... ask them for a discount code. it isnt much, but I got one for 5% off my purchase. Good luck. and let me know if you find a better one

what is the advantage I understand the rates are good, but why not use one of those services when you dial a number before the phone number to make the call? Colombia is about 18 cents a minute, no minimum. I wish it was as cheap to call Colombia as to call the UK, but 18 cents a minute isn't too bad.

i have seen cards that cost about 4 cents a minute but they usually have a .50 cent maintenance fee weekly, intended to eat up your talk time. From Texas, the best ones are called:

Casa Blanca
8 ball
diamond latino
yes

ask the clerk which ones people are buying for colombia. they are usually informed. DO NOT BUY THE ONES THAT "maintenance fee charged" or "connection fee charged" if they dont state how much, it is super high. one I bought from an EXXON station had a $2.00 connection fee, and I basically had to toss a card that had $1.97 balance on it. no kidding.

but the best so far is the one from the internet, that cost a dollar a call but is unlimited talk time.

callingcards.com I found a card at callingcards.com called "La Fiesta". It gives me about 285 min or so for $20 to call my girlfriend in Colombia. I usually call her cell phone and someone from work told me that it gets a little over 300 min for calling a landline.

God Bless America!

UnionTelecard.com I use Super Quick from UnionTelecard.com. Gives me 260 minutes for $10 to call to Barranquilla. It's Pin less dialing, has no Maintenance fees and no service fees!

Poor but snappy
