Peter HELP

The threads are not updating on the main page nor are the read messages being cleared. I find myself having to open the thread to see if there is any updated messages. This is very frustrating for the user and I would only assume that all these people who are opening the threads for no reason are slowing down the site......please fix...... its driving me nuts.....
