Peter - Request for Spanish Language Forum

Peter, I know we already have tons of forum categories to choose from accross the top but if you could be so kind as to add another category (is there room?) Spanish Language, that would be aewsome. I have seen quite a bit of requests in the past for this. I'm currently an infrequent poster but everytime I pop back in I see a need still exists.

Also I remember a post of Colombian Slang, Dichos etc.... Is that still around?

I will be glad to help you understand Colombian Spanish.

I need help with Colombian Spanish por favor

admittedly, arriving can feel great too

pedro says on Jul 29, 2007, 08:49:

Roci, when are you gonna make it down to Colombia next?

que nota!

Man Tequila says on Jul 29, 2007, 09:33:

It would be useful, Rocinante. Course there is already a PBH En Español section, which is not the same thing.

Here are some links.

Mmm... a forum to learn Colombian Spanish? I hesitate to add more and more forums. Do other people want this too?

Poor but snappy

Miguel says on Jul 29, 2007, 09:53:

I requested such a forum almost 3 years ago and I could not agree more with rocinante.

goin_south says on Jul 29, 2007, 09:55:

A 'Colombian' Spanish forum,... yeah. That would be good.

Another thing, so I can shorten my list of 'favorites', would be something like an Appendix, or a general reference page. To the credit of the site, there are alot of very useful references, other than just the travel stuff... and when a moderator sees one, then they could add it to the general reference, broken down by alphabet/topic...

y, un mil gracias.

goin_south says on Jul 29, 2007, 10:05:

I thought he specifically requested COLOMBIAN....

Otherwise, of course... if you want to learn spanish... pbh ain't gonna do it.

y, un mil gracias.

The "forum" could just be a sticky on the Español section with a review of Spanish grammar and verbs and Colombian slang. If people want to talk, the Spanish forum that already exists would be a reasonable venue. Unless Rocinante had something else in mind?

Miguel says on Jul 29, 2007, 10:43:

Exactly, Man Tequila...just an exchange of shared knowledge, tips, "dichos", etc.

Man Tequila said "The "forum" could just be a sticky on the Español section with a review of Spanish grammar and verbs and Colombian slang. If people want to talk, the Spanish forum that already exists would be a reasonable venue" my thoughts... precisely..

Miguel says on Jul 29, 2007, 11:16:

I'll go along with that. Let's start with a tutorial about "haber". Nos vemos en el foro en español entonces.

Peter (Moderator) says on Jul 29, 2007, 12:04:

Going South: what do you mean by "references"?

Poor but snappy

Man Tequila says on Jul 29, 2007, 12:08:

If I don't understand a Spanish word or phrase, I tend to look it up at -- www.wordreference.com -- which is both a multilingual dictionary plus has fora where people can discuss phrases, idioms and slang. A summary of Spanish grammar and verbs would be helpful, but this also exists elsewhere. A place where you can ask questions debating when to say "mucho gusto", "con mucho gusto" or "encantado", or whether you need to use the subjunctive might also be helpful. But it also exists elsewhere on the web, but no reason it could not be said here too.

Rocinante did a beautiful job of delineating preterite and imperfect and would be well-qualified to lead such a forum or sticky. But this would also be time consuming and presumably needs to be split up to make it wieldy and possible.

Learning Spanish through a PBH forum is no substitute for actually speaking it, as GIB rightly points out. Not so easy to do in small town Canada, so I think a few lessons would not be amiss.

goin_south says on Jul 29, 2007, 12:47:

Peter, what I meant was this: Maybe it would be better put as an appendix.

Alot of people come up with many websites and list them here, just as they have on this page. I'm talking about the pages that are websites that are pertinent to Colombia in any way. Music. Food. Cities. Language concerns, like Man Tequila posted above. Civil matters. Cultural affairs. Travel., ... etc.

Here's why I mentioned it: Because I have probably over 200 or 300 , or more...websites saved in my 'Favorites' list, of webpages pertaining to Colombia.

So.... why not have those available here? Maybe others don't do what I do, like that. But, if so... then all would be spared and we would always know we can come and find those here on PBH.

comprende?

y, un mil gracias.

goin_south says on Jul 29, 2007, 12:49:

and, for real....I'm having no success, in attempt to change my duck foto.
Not that I need or want to.

y, un mil gracias.

mariai says on Jul 29, 2007, 15:22:

I think the way expressions and slang has been explained so far is just what we need in this forum. Making it too formal would change su esencia, no les parece?

Peter (Moderator) says on Jul 30, 2007, 21:15:

mariai - mm.. you're right perhaps. In any case, the slang always changes every 10 or 20 years it's different... :)
