Peter - new forum for relationships?

Either it is Gringos looking for Latina brides or Old Biddies like me rocking a 20-something Colombian cradle, or Mad Lion and his special situation, but there are getting to be plenty of threads dealing with relationships/dating and so on - perhaps we bore others who have more travel related concerns.

Could we have a forum for relationships? I don't mind sharing it with CaliPro, as I am working on my own MiamiPro page - going down to Miami tomorrow to get some great oens of ML. (JUST A JOKE!)

Thank you so much for the forum and for all that you already do Peter, la reina

how about.. adding travel tips as forum also to encompass hotel, taxi, airline, safety, etc., recommendation.

Keep in mind that relationship & travel tips post probably make up 2/3 of the post on the forum.

Kinda makes sense But then it would also be a good idea to create other categories like "Immigration" and "Living in Colombia" or "Working in Colombia"....not sure where it'll end. I like seeing all the posts at once and stay away from the political discussions. The problem is where do you delineate the different categories? BTW...I wouldn't mind seeing a seperate discussion like singles looking for singles...your advertisers would like it too.

P.S. Is Reina offering?

nawww I like the way we share relationship experiences here, be it with donkeys, 20 yo gals, or serious relationships.

If we open a gate to dating here then all will need to watch out what they type, this board would become boring. I couldn't give elmo a donkey with pink ribbons for xmas then. Others couldn't show pix. And most importantly, we couldn't share our experiences and ask for advice from friends.

Enough dating sites exist already, this is only refuge we have to share experiences and ask for advice. It is not all about dating here, it is about all issues concerning Colombia.

We need PBH as the best resource for direct information and help, Peter created a monster, but it is us keeping it alive. Would you want to miss the freedom we enjoy here? you are free to request a photo from any man here, with or without knickers, and nobody will be offended ... as long as you don't post them public.

Agreed It would definitely be nice to avoid the mandatory every 3rd or 4th post on a variation of the "meeting colombianas" theme. It does get tiring to see, and a number of us have other reasons for discussing Colombia.

Addendum:
I can see some diffifulty tho considering that culture and relationships have their ties. AND I would also be concerned that the new forum on "relationships" might get an OD of bravado and degenerate into drivel... ok I'm partly joking here.

that is why I suggested basic info pages we have a lot of repeats

otherwise I think the daily yakking here is perfect

ACBlessing says on Dec 7, 2004, 21:17:

Not dating but info Yes, it would have to be worded that the discussion won't be a people-matching forum but more like an informational site about how to meet others, immigration, marriage, customs, etc. Am I getting this right? Trying to run a dating site from here would be a disaster. I was thinking about just creating a zagarise forum so he can talk to all his different personalities without disturbing the rest of the forums. Hey...come to think of it...kinda quiet here tonight, huh?

Hey, Peter If you are going to start changing the format of the website then I think a name change is in order also. I really haven't been around here all that long so maybe someone else could come up with a better name than me. But, "poorbuthappy" just doesn't seem to fit. From what I can tell few of the people that read this board are poor and it seems to me quite a few are unhappy. Well at least that's the impression they leave me with anyway.

New forum for relationships I personally feel that poor but happy is indicative and characteristic of the casual or simplistic way of life in Colombia, also also a forum exclusively about relationships would make the website more diversifed and whole, challeging the emotional welfare of men even though in general we are in denial that we actually have emotions, kind of like a male Oprah Winfrey from a male perspective or some shit like that, hell I dont know!

Just to be clear: this is not a dating site and will never be a dating site. And by the way, there are some dating ads, but I got most of them blocked. I'm going to block some more now.

I like poor but happy It's a cool name that's obviously earned it brank loyalty. I don't think it means you're poor if you post here. I've always thought of it as more a grassroots approach to participating in discussions about Colombia. It is very casual and we all participate in plain language all sorts of questions and experiences. I am very happy that there are no pop ups and annoying ads.

My main concern with adding a special board is that it would attract even more discussion of a kind I would rather avoid, and it would be damn hard to moderate. I'm not against discussing relationships, but I think I won't dedicate a special board to it.

Exactly, Peter! Peter, I totally agree with you. I say keep the forums the way they are. Otherwise, relationship discussions just might take over your site and it will never be the special site that it is again.

Good point Peter. Yes another forum might become pure dating/drivel and take over.

I also like the poorbuthappy name. My very first impression hearkens to when I first found the site. '98 or '99?. Peter was still in Colombia and I understood it as a reference to Peter's life way back then, a foreigner's "poor but happy" experience in Colombia.

catoergories /organisation yes please I agree that just a forum for relationships would probably end up taking over

though the idea of moving things into catergories is a fine idea

eg

1.living in US/UK/Europe
2.living in Colombia
3.working as above
4.Travelling tips/Safety (sub divide into regions of colombia
5.General chit chat
6.visa applications US/UK /Europe (or subdivide these as diiferent requirements for different areas
7.weddings
8.colombian culture/ music
9.General info about colombia, maps, statistics etc
10.Recipes
11.Spanish chat- help for us learning and everyone who wants to talk in spanish
12.Meet ups - helping people get together from the forum in US/UK/Colombia (just sppoted the meetup post (great idea)
13.Members Forum pictures - happy events like weddings , births of babies - list is endless
14.links to other forums/ misc stuff
15. little avatars for members so we can have a piccie of ourselves
16.New posts
A function that shows new posts from all catergories

I feel that it would be a bit more organised and would look good too, as everything at the moment is so scattered.

There is a lot of valuable information on this website and others which is not being utilised as well as it could be for the benefit of everyone.

These are just suggestions Please Discuss!!!!

I join in a few forums on different things, some inspiration is a forum i love because of my car,
www.300zx.co.uk
( i drive a fast sports car), even if you don't like cars it may give some of you some ideas for here

also happy to help with anything!(though not in spanish..... yet)

Good idea It would be a great idea to separate the love stuff from the travel stuff. One doesn´t then have to sift through a mass of words to find information gems like that taxi number. Which guide book is going to give you a piece of info like that?

Lionheart says on Dec 8, 2004, 10:47:

more categories are not a good idea While a thread might start out belonging to a distict category, look at the dynamic nature of the threads. They cover various topics during their lifetime, and it would make it even harder to find bits and pieces of information if they were in a category with no reference to that information. A typical threads starts out with "is it dangerous in xxx" and rapidly moves on to taxi advance, hotel advice, where to find girls, let's meet, buy a house .....

I would rather see my idea happen with creating basic info pages from content repeated often enough here, to avoid having threads start fresh every week.

"Where to find girls" Becuase that's a typical Colombia-essential... I think not.

That aside, Lh, I do agree that a few sticky threads on hotels, taxis, nightspots, might not be a bad idea.

I am glad you like the meet-up idea. I see you got good ideas as well. I would like for Friends of Colombian, and Colombians to sign up in the meet-up no matter where they reside, I would like this meet-up group to get lots of members and to get to know, learn and help each others, whether it is about Colombia or any other places.

Take care

Where to find girls.. where to party, where to meet people, what's a good club, etc, etc., they'll all the variation of the same questions - WHERE TO MEET PEOPLE! It's actually a very valid questions, because many travelers are tourist looking to discover colombia or city for the first time. Meeting people in as a tourist is part of the experience of learning about a culture or country. Most of us tourist don't have many local contacts (ie, friends/family), so we depend on advice on this board on where to go.

I agree that it shouldn't be a dating site, there's enough of those out there for anyone that interested.

Peter.. there shouldn't be ANYTHING wrong with talking about ANY SUBJECT relating to COL(incl women/men). I think what has happen a few times are personal attacks on posters from other posters soley because they didn't like what they wrote. Like you said in your rules, attacks/debate of "subject matters" are OK, BUT not personal attacks. Calling someone liars, cheaters, morons, ugly, etc., would construe as personal attacks.

Okay, Okay, Okay - I get it. Thanks for all the feedback. Listen, I was not asking EVER for a dating site.

I was thinking, to spare those unlike me who are posting ABOUT relationships, I was thinking ... to separate out our "Mars/Venus in Colombia" kinds of drivel from those who, for example ... need that taxi number.

I love this forum, and just did not want to offend anyone with my drivel.

However, from what I read - there is cart blanche (within reason and with good taste) for us to continue, for example - the dream vision of MiamiPro chartering a jet for Menopausal Norteamericanas, so we can compete with CaliPro in the Knicker department. That's all!

I have to go find my camera - and maybe I left it under Mad Lion's cradle -- OOPS! I promised that I would not tell Elmo about this. Gosh darn it!
