Hello, I live in Bogota, and I want to receive a dog by way of parcel service from the States. Can it be done?

I hope you bring your pet with a few toys.

But, I'm going to start making some assumptions here.... Which means I might actually end up making an ass out of myself ..........Thu 04 17, 2008 11:34 am

ive taken our animals down and back many times...dogs, chickens (daughters) pets)(*&^&%$#.

parcel delivery...i'm not sure about that one, because of the documents involved ie rabies documents, veternarian certifications and govt. concents. flying accompanied on avianca, they charged me $125.00 per dog and i think it was $125 for both the chickens...however, birds are really complicated...lots of documentation. flying unaccompanied on avianca, they wanted $700 for the two dogs, plus payoffs on the paperwork...you figure.

needless to say, you, flying with them is the cheapest and safest. remember, animals require special, temperature controlled, oxygenized compartments. mail, misc. don't require that, so i don't think it's an area that parcel delivery companies want to venture into.

I know that Centurain Air cargo ship horses on occasion....................I don't think they would have any problem with a dog................the health certs are easy to get from your vet........

.........Its useless to argue with ignorance

pb. you call the col. consulate nearest you and get the latest requirements. than you have your rabies to date and a vet. certification as to the health, age, breed.....all that kind of stuff.

that gets the animal on the airline then you get the colombian documents upon entering the country.

hope that helps. by the way, there's a time frame. exams must, as i remember, be made within 2 weeks of flight. chceck with the consulate.
hope this helps

Quite frankly, if it was me, I would contact the customer service section of Avianca to find out what the latest requirement is in effect. Also be sure and call your carrier as each has different rule.

Information provided by ICA (Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario), Oficina del Aeropuerto El Dorado, tel: (011571) 4138893, Fax: (011571) 4138873, the following are the requirements to enter the country with pets:

Certificate of good health issued by a veterinarian.
Certificate of vaccinations recently issued.

These documents must be handed to the incumbent ICA authority at the arrival at the airport, once the animal is returned to you. IT IS NOT NECESSARY to authenticate these documents at the Consulate. The ban on importing cats was liited in June of 2004
