But when the goverment started buying $ and no threat of interest rate hikes this was a EASY trade. The Chilean peso rose 12% when the goverment started doing this in April.

christobeldawg says on Jun 28, 2008, 08:46: You buy puts on stocks, or groups of stocks, and make money if they go down in value. If they go down, you win, if you're wrong and they go up, you lose money. Be very careful if you're not experienced with trading. In fact, I would say only do it with someone with alot of experience, if at all. You can lose your ass. admittedly, arriving can feel great too 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
|
rocinante says on Jun 28, 2008, 08:53: All you need to do is buy debit spreads - this way if there is volatility is any direction you make money. Up or down as long as it moves nicely you are making money. When markets are down like they are now there is not a lot of stability and big money is jumping in and out of things. This skittish vibe means movement. Taking advantages of big swings is how day traders like G Loid make money. Flat markets are good for grandmas who collect dividends. Although if you are certain that something is going to tank you can just buy the puts like christobeldawg says. "World economic indicators point to a democrat winning 2008. It will surely be Obama. He is still in the long positions but has taken out alot of profit for partial safety. He is one of those who believes that oil will hit 200 a barrell. christobeldawg says on Jun 28, 2008, 10:35: He has done it several different ways, but the primary one, I think, was in buying actual crude oil barrells directly, with a long term future delivery date. Honestly, I don't know enough about it to offer much help on the best way to do it. I know the way he bought those futures, he said that couldn't be done in a regular trading account, like Schwab or Fidelity.
