Hi all,
yesterday, there were some personal attacks on the site that went way beyond what's acceptable (and personal attacks are never acceptable btw). I've deleted the worst offenders, and warned some others personally. I wanted to explain why we don't allow personal attacks here.
I have always considered PBH to be a kind of bar. You come in for a visit, ask some questions, hang out, chat, have a drink (ok no drinks I guess, but the rest is kind of the same). You can talk about pretty much anything, but if someone gets drunk in my bar and starts to bother the other people there, I throw them out. Why? Coz it's my bar. They are spoiling it for everyone, and I am not running this bar (which is free btw) just as their personal playground: it's for everyone to enjoy. It has nothing to do with that person's intrinstic qualities (they may be a great person): if they behave badly in my bar, they have to leave, because they ruin the place for everybody else.
Apart from that, personal attacks are the weapon of someone who has run out of arguments. You can attack what someone says, and if you run out of arguments, admit defeat or shut up.
And personal attacks *on the internet* of all places, what can I say: for total loosers.
Let me know if you have any questions.
