Partner

I moved to Colombia three years ago and decided to start a company of outsourcing work like CAD,graphics etc. Unfortunately, I did it with no partners and learned that Colombia people are diferent and can rip you off. They often play the homeless card and often you feel sorry for them.
I ran out of money, workers stole from me, etc. Lesson's learned I came back to USA to work and promise to go at it a second time. How can I find American partners that can do their part in USA and I in Colombia. I am dual citizen and fly to Colombia everyday. Anybody wanting to do business in Colombia?

Suena como a muchos o todos. It is better to listen the other parties as well.

I could be interested but then again I am Colombian.

How can they do that with a CADD file/drawing?? They either produce and gladly accept the pay or you find someone that will and don't pay until you have it in hand.

Am I missing something??

I have thought about a company like that in CO taking advantage of a very smart, talented and educated workforce to produce Engineering drawings but my first order of business is to take off the drawings who the client is and where it is at to keep an honest person honest if you know what I mean. And if the CADD operator asks why I tell him/her they have no need to know and if they complain NEXT worker. Very simple. Anything I would do like that only via contract, no full time directs.

No entiendo aca.

I`ve done that thing while in Colombia. I have reliable, endless, and cheap workforce to do CAD (Solid works, solid edge & Pro-E, althought I don`t have the lattest software anymore).

I did it for a guy in Denmark. He sent me drafts, we agreed on how many hours it would take to do, then he sent me 1/3 of the $ through Pay Pal. Upon completion he sent me another 1/3 and after final draft the remaining 1/3.

chiaiIbanez, I sent you a PM. I`m very interested in listening to what you have.

PM if you'd like and I can keep my ears open for CAD work. I get clients that usually need internet software applications written. The hard part is not finding Colombian employees to the the extra work - it's getting the jobs from abroad first.

If you employ a dynamic "as needed" staff -a pool of talent you can add as business gets better and loosen when things get slow - and if you are doing project work, I don't know how you got ripped off - but that's a personal matter.

Waterdawg. Go to any top notch University and post a help wanted sign. Ask for examples of their work. You would be amazed at how much technical local talent is walking around. I assume you need Photoshop/Illustrator types who can create digital images for websites or print advertising?

I am in the Philippines doing some of that but with web developing i.e. PHP, Web 2.0, Javax and MySQL. I am having some dynamite websites being done here. I could not find good talent at the universities here myself. The upside is you can hire someone who has 5 years experience for a really good price. Problem with allot of developers here is that they have trouble free lancing outside of the Philippines because they do not have a Paypal account. You can now get a Paypal account here since the 1st of the year so that may change things.

Thank you guys. Ok here it is I work in Tampa as a contractor with a recruter agency. I have proposed two firm to do work in Colombia but they are scared. They rather waste money on clowns that take smoke breaks and watch the internet all day. My specialty is process controls but can do anything from HVAC, plumbing, control, line drawings, html, hmi, scada, patents. I have already spent the money for well structure but I am waiting for the right partner that would share their part in the USA or Europe. Once that is in place it a turn key operation. Currently I do some work part-time for a Patent attorney. I know the laws, the people and the systems for outsourcing and all I need is the other end of the coin. I have no problem training workers from Colombia to follow the Amrican way of doing things. I am bilingual. The location to set my office is in medellin. Eventually I would like to get project in Colombia as the Americans have invaded Colombia and have bought out firms left and right. Please help me out. Next month I will be on a contract assignement in ky and will try to lure business but to be frank I would like to be in Colombia making things happening.
Tahnk you guys, Please let me know what you think.

Rocinate,
You will get people to do things but you will end up wasting time with those students if you are not in Colombia. There is lost in translation and Colombians think we are rich. You got to have someone who know both cultures or else you could end up paying more and fustrations. Believe me I have been that route. Also if they are experience they will do tricks and those that are not will get a job once they have experience. They could be humble at first and then they are like leaches sucking you dry. The only way to do things its like I have been doing, fly to USA to meet clients and take jobs with you. Make sure everything is answered and then make it happen in Colombia. Lost in translation can cause you more. I have already spent three years there and learned through my lessons. You also have to deal with the government issues, labor laws. It can happen but you have to be experience.
Most people fall in love with the idea of living in colombia and go there and then what. You spend more there and end up coming back. I have already learned the lessons but once you clear those hurtles its smooth sailing. Outsourcing to Colombia is cheap but its less in the Philippines. What is ideal is to get clients in Colombia to mix and match then you do not have to worry about the change in dollar.
