Paddy´s Day In Cali

As I was unable to get to the well publicised, yet apparently non-existant, opening night of the new Irish Hostel in Medellin, I spent St Patrick´s Day in Cali. Well, Jamundi to be exact. And what a night it was I can tell you! Evening meal (beans, rice and salad), followed by "El Poder de 10" and "El Ultimo Matriminio Feliz"! (Don´t know what happened to "Pura Sangre" - did that guy who was shot die or what?) Then, the RCN news and bed. Not a Guinness or a leprachaun in sight. No spuds and no rebel songs.
Oh, and it rained.

Really looking forward to Saint George´s Day on April 23rd. I don´t even think that the British Consulate in Cali will be celebrating that one.

Your holiday calendar would appear to have a lot of scribblings on it, sounds like a blast. As soon as I have the energy to fly to Miami (six hours from Phoenix) I will be coming to Cali for that beer you offered up. :)

You could have gone downtown to the gas station and stared at "El Monumento Chimborazo." Helps pass the time when they filled the truck with propane.

Otherwise, at least in Jumandi, you could have watched the 1954 Buick rust.,

Hola!

Here in Cali we had some beans and rice down town as a 5 pm snack. I was looking so unirish in my Orange Polo shirt that I was saying that I was dressed as a Northern Ireland Protestant Loyalist! We did have a green advocato for lunch!! JaJa!

I went to bed around 10:30 and tried to calm our crying baby!

Hey brit, i don't know what it's like nowadays, but the British Consulate in Cali used to throw a shindig for the Queen's b'day. All the expats that were registered used to get an invite, wonder if La_camps has gone to one.

ok dokey, are the irish actually allowed into colombian now and does anyone know since when. when i was in peru last june some irish fellas wanted to go up there but they were not sure. i remember there was an irish guy on a amazon tour down in leticia, colombia who had to be taken from his lodgings and forced to sleep on the boat in the middle of the nite by the military down there a couple of years back.

i didnt meet any on my colombian tour in 2007, mostly israelis. has it not something to do with the irish person who mysterioulsy escaped from colombian custody and found his way back home after being caught in some remote hills/jungle of colombia training the AUC OR FARC ?

well, hope you managed to find a place for a pint of the black stuff

we should have a britishness day and drink tea & biscuits but the british identity has been lost unfortunately over he last 10 years

...only the one´s left over from the rest of us Raaay.

Billb, I registered with the Consulate when I got here 5 months ago and haven´t heard anything since, but I was also told that they threw a few parties but they don´t seem to exist now. Not sure if I´d be too comfortable with all those stiff, tie wearing Brit diplomatic types anyway.

Juanes
Lots of English Langauge schools in Cali but am not aware of the set up or salary etc.
There are also a few of private bilingual schools asking for native English speaking teachers (Colombo-Britanico, British School, etc)
Yeah, watching the Cali derby was a blast. Full on terrace brawls etc. Reminded me of the Uk during the 80's with the Inter City Firm etc. English football has really calmed down over the past 10 years or so.

i went to some games in sao paulo and rio and also la bombenera in BA, arg, last year too and there was definately a bit more of an edge around sao paulo, santos, flamengo..i noticed..these are from el clasico last year
