Packing my bags, Bucaramanga here I come...

It’s official, in less that one week I will be leaving my home in TX to start my life in Bucaramanga, Col. My fiancé is from there. He was spending the last 8 years here for university and work when we met two years ago. Now we are moving to his home town. It will be a permanent move and I am excited about the change. I know many of you suggest going back and forth a lot but I know research has proven the best way to integrate into a new culture is to dive in. Going back and forth can actually hinder the adjustment phase so I plan to avoid going back and forth much. I will be coming back in September for a quick trip back to my home city and then to Hawaii with my family but my plane ticket will put me right back in Col less than two weeks later. Oh also, I am very familiar with their culture. I lived in Quito, Ecuador for one year as an exchange student. So anyhow, any last minute tips? Things I must take with me? It has been interesting to get my life down to 4 suitcases (2 now and 2 on my way back from Hawaii).

I am so anxious, excited, but also overwhelmed. The first week I am there, I am getting Lasiks done. Soon after my fiancé and I are getting married in San Andres and then I will change my visa to a spousal visa. After some time there, I am planning to teach English.

Good luck to you adrienne. I hope you're able to sell your house quickly. And have a great time in Hawaii (that's my neck of the woods). BTW - Bring very little to Hawaiil. Everyone always overpacks. It's a shorts and t-shirt state (and swimsuit of course) so dress casually.
