The US is using bilateral trade agreements to bypass WTO obligations and extract concessions from weak developing countries according to Oxfam. Oxfam notes that the US is in the process of signing an Intellectual Property Agreement (IPA) with Colombia that it says will have the effect of increasing healthcare costs in the Latin American nation by $919m (£469m) by 2020....

vladimiro says on Mar 23, 2007, 19:05: I remember reading that Colombia had hired a foriegn expert to head thier negoatiating team for the trade deal, but the US forced him out ostensibly because he was not COlombian. I'm not sure if thye even have the expertise to neogtiate by themselves with the US experts.
