Over B/manga

yesterday we had a couple of these babies flying over B/manga. they did about 3 or 4 passes and then flew off towards Baranca...it sure was a pretty sight...even if they are old

Yes Vic, even Vanguardia Liberal gave it a note this morning. According to them the planes were K-fir.

I worked right across from a navy/army base in Texas where Lockeed Martin tested planes, including the new F22 raptor. I could see the land strip from my desk. There were about 20 planes taking off everyday. Yesterday I felt like I had gone back in time...

Did Tattoo run up the main bell tower to ring the bell and shout "The plane! The plane!"?

I personally didn´t see these but I sure did hear them and the students at the school I teach really got excited. Most of them were at lunch and got to see them.

You see these quite a lot over Barranquilla. You also get some nice views from the airport before the commercial planes take off..........never get used to the noise and they sometimes fly pretty low.

Vic, as a matter of fact the Italians are giving them back to the Brits as they are getting pretty outdated...Even our old block 10 F-16's (1977 models) can out perform them, and are more reliable than the newer Typhoons. The F35 is suppose to counter Russia's new one though but each has their own drawbacks. I see Colombia getting some major updates very soon but with the Democrats who knows....May not be with the U.S., time will tell as major power struggles in South America right now.

i sometimes see them doing some practice in villavo since the base the Apiay is there

Sorry all had problems posting, now this twice...Vic, know what you mean as each plane has its own good points. Colombia actually has Mirages that have had mods bringing them up to the K-Fir- C2 Stds. (some but not all; 1S: 14 5COA, 2S: 2 5COD, PR: 2 5COR, Plus 12 IAI Kfir-C2 & 1 Kfir TC7 *Trainer*. Most Colombian Mirages upgraded in early 1990s to the improved Kfir standard. http://www.vectorsite.net/avmir3.html The Mirage is getting very outdated especially with J79 motors max velocity 1520mph., 15,900 #'s of thrust. This is almost same as Europe's Toronado with 2 motors max speed 1511mph but only 17,270 #'s thrust from ea. motor. The Italians have begun to give these jets back as the older F-16 is flying circles around these with less mass to push, 1 engine producing 28,600 #'s/1500mph and with a rate of climb of 50K feet/min. With added fuel savings and low cost for spare parts proves this the best choice Internationally. Very often with a limited amount of jets, we have these FMC (Full Mission Capabile) nearly everyday including Alerts. With the new Typhoons, these are grounded more often and many cost over runs, the program is a flop! Now we have the new F-35 with 40,000 #'s of thrust and vectoring capibilities, this would counter Russia;s new SU-37 (I believe) jet to a point. But with Russia, there is no 2 jets made the same so canning parts when needed becomes pretty rough. Best cost effective program overall for Colombia to counter Mr. Chevez's (And remain on top in balance struggle So. America), upgraded MIG's...F-16's Block 50's!! :-) and I would know trust me jeje. Many years working multiple systems and I still do not get tired watching all the hotdogging like you all!
