bufalo says on Jul 19, 2007, 16:36:

It's also my picture Kat1.... thanks for the mention! I'm not insectologist or aracnologist or whatever the people are that study spiders, but I see what I believe to be this type all the time on the farm. They never seem to bug me nor the people who live there, but then again I don't get up close and personal with them either. Just how big is that bad boy?

Man Tequila says on Jul 19, 2007, 16:59:

If you just look at the centre of the spider, it looks like the Burger King. I'm guessing this bad boy is a whopper.

I do not recall, I think it was in Peru, there is a study on some spiders that a farming community had found that would provided an extra zap in the man's sex drive. These spiders would live in the wheat fields. Very dangerous for the young and old folks, but the young males would get this extra zap once they got biten. They are looking at these spiders as a nature version of viagra.

Sorry do not know all the details, so do not go running naked in any wheat fields.

RUV says on Jul 19, 2007, 21:49:

Found the two articles. It looks like Brazil not Peru.

I cut and pasted part of it.

In Brazil hospital staff know immediately if you have been bitten by a wandering spider due to various side effects, the main one being an uncomfortable erection.

Vic, you may want to keep the dog away from it, unless you want your dog mounted on your car muffler.

Vic snakes eat spiders. Get a snake.

Frank Rizzo says on Jul 21, 2007, 09:37:

now houstongal and Kat.....spiders are not sooooo bad......just imagine.....you're sleeping tonight....in a nice dream....that spider in the vic's pic...slowly crawling up the side of your bed....onto your leg...slowly up your back where you can't reach to knock it off......just walking around on your back all night......jajajaajaja....sorry....just had to....

houstongal says on Jul 21, 2007, 19:10:

Thx Frank...now I'll have nightmares about it. And Houston has more than its share of spiders. Luckily they're not as creepy as the photos here. Cockroaches I can handle...can't do spiders!

Frank Rizzo says on Jul 21, 2007, 21:00:

sorry HG....

adrimm says on Jul 21, 2007, 23:21:

I think you're brave just taking photos of it.. spiders can be fast.... this is once I have come to terms that it is a real spider and not a photo-shopped spider (the pattern on it looks to unnatural!).

ugh..

vicshere says on Jul 22, 2007, 05:53:

sorry Kat.....

podborski says on Jul 22, 2007, 06:45:

is it true that no matter where you are in the world, you are never more than 3 feet from a spider?

or that the average person eats 12 spiders while sleeping (over their lifetime)?

vicshere says on Jul 22, 2007, 08:38:

pod I have eaten more than 12 just while in Colombia...there are these tiny little spiders..smaller than a pin head and they are everywhere you just cant see them....I worry more about swimming in the lower rivers water where they have tiny fish that are attracted to your urine.....they can actually swim up the urethra track (either male or female) and cause you a whole lot of discomfort to say the least as they grow to some 3 inches ...sound worst than a gallstone

kat1 (Moderator) says on Jul 22, 2007, 09:06:

houstongal says on Jul 22, 2007, 11:24:

i cringe everytime i see these photos of these spiders, i have nightmares thanks to frank's power of suggestion, and now i have to tape my mouth shut when i sleep and look around a 3' perimeter to see if there's a spider around....and yet i keep on looking at this thread! ja ja...i must get some enjoyment from being creeped out!

Lauthra says on Jul 23, 2007, 14:59:

Nato (='.'=)

vicshere says on Jul 23, 2007, 15:31:

nope haven't killed it...I am feeding it termites and the redheaded ants...the spider wraps them up when the fall on the web then the next morning the little white pouches are gone... I just finished putting on a couple of more ants and man it jumps at the little buggers
