Orlando Duque (Colombian Cliff Diver)

So it's Friday evening and I'm doing some hard-core partying... I wish. Actually, just trying to come up with an original approach to this topic. Any late nighter's who might want to throw me a bone on the subject? If not, just a bit of friendly conversation to overcome the block!

Thanks

The worst by far... /:[ 2 cups of coffee, 5 cancer-sticks and an hour later I'm down to this unbecoming soliloquy...

I couldn't pinpoint the location... as to the "Colombian training abroad" bit... according to a Colombian colleague, it's a lot more common than you'd expect. There's just not enough state funding or private sponsorship available.

But... ..he lives in Hawaii, and is happily married :-P

Great exponent of what Colombian talent coupled with perseverance can accomplish. This guy started out as an olympic diver and actually got a chance to compete for his country in the '92 Barcelona Olympics. The fact that financial difficulties prevented him from doing so didn't seem to hold him back, he just went on to higher, more difficult stunts. 6 times Cliff Diving World Champ... I think the term is "beraquero".

(really did my homework on this one :- )

Berraquera ok, I was close. It's berraquera... I just don't know what the exact meaning is...

Berraquera anyone?

GD That's exactly what I'm trying to figure out... there are two Colombians on my indoor soccer team who use the term constantly while playing... when I did try to obtain an explanation/translation they couldn't seem to reach a consensus... I would dare say it was close to spunk or grit. Any locals wanna give me a hand here?

9 dives in Colombia Yes I'm Colombian and live and train in Hawaii. ther are a lot of cliffs in Colombia, however the training is done in pools (for safety reasons). The best, places in Colombia are around Parque Tayrona (near Santa Marta) Nuqui (Choco) there is also a nice rock near the Tolemaida military Base. Also lots of bridges near Buenaventura, but the best place of all is in Malpelo in the pacific ocean (long trip but worth it 40 hours in a boat).

In O'ahu (Hawaii) there are a few cliff, near Hawaii Kai, (east side) Waimea (North Shore) and Nuuanu (windward side) I won two wold championships in a competition on the island of Lanai (south shore Kaunolu) beautiful place

The 9dives (www.9dives.com) movie will premiere in Bogota on April 20 for the Eurocine film festival, after that it will travel to Barranquilla, Medellin, Cali and Pereira. During the summer will be playing in a few countries in Europe (Austria, Germany, Spain) also in Israel, South Africa Bosnia, Italy and a few others I cannot remember now.

Anyway just a bit of informacion,

Hopefully......yes here in the US is a little bit difficult to get distribution for Independent films, the big companies don't want to risk their money. But we'll keep trying. For sure there will be a DVD for sale in the fall, available at www.9dives.com and www.amazon.com

SpankD Has anyone heard of any water fights lately? Maybe water balloons hitting ice skaters in the head? A hose in the kitchen? Little Winters and I got the email with the site, and we will be returning to the PlaCe to be this summer along with Jim. Please keep us updated on when it'll be on DVD.
