Organic food in Medellin

Hello - in Medellin now and this is my 2nd time here. Planning to stay for awhile. Interested to know where people go to buy organic food in Medellin.

So far at the - Oviedo Pomona - I found:

A good selection of organic ground coffee (Juan Valdez, others)
Spaghetti (Only 1 Italian brand)
Small selection of vegetables
Various Jams
President's Choice (American!) cereal- wheat squares.

-- Do any specialist markets (Like Trader Joes, Whole Foods) exist?

I briefly visited Oviedo Cronulla? and found a smaller variety of organic coffee. Didn't look for anything else.

I've yet to visit Carrefour. The store layout, chaos and craziness of Exito (Poblado and San Diego) leaves me wanting.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I seriously doubt Trader Joes and Whole Foods exist in Colombia. Try farmers markets. You may not find them in the nicer areas of the city though. While produce there will not be certified organic, Farmers that do not mass produce crops cannot afford to spray chemicals on the small amount of crops they grow.

Other than that I am not sure. Colombia is backwards when it comes to that. They are eating more processed foods than ever instead of sticking with freshness.

Smile if you are a thinker!

No kidding... ... to me organic food is "old school" food. You plant it, you grow it, you eat it, most farmers in Colombia do it. They don't use none of that hormonal stuff they use here in the States. Most Colombian food is organic, only they don't use that "fancy" name.

I certainly wasn't thinking Trader Joes, etc...LITERALLY. I have managed to find some more items after pecking around - but not a flood. Oddly enough...there is a Colombian system for ecologico / organic food. There is a display in Pomona and Carrefour.

Which begs the question - maybe there is more usage of pesticides, etc...than previously though. I generally don't go to Farmer's Markets - here or US (Not many and infrequent). I'll look around here more.

The comment on most Colombian food is organic...so if I go to the store and buy some bread (Bimbo, or otherwise) - is this organic? WHere does the wheat come from? US/Canada? There is "assembled in" vs "made in" vs "packaged" etc..Colombian potato chips (potatoes are one of the top 10 for pesticides)

..eating some organic Colombian pineapples (From a jar) as I type this...
