Opening a Cafe/Bar in Medellin

Opening a Cafe/Bar in Medellin

I am going to Medellin to open a modern Cafe/Bar with music, around 100m2 is ideal. Can someone help me with the ideal location? It needs to be in a popular area where people go day and night.

Does anyone know roughly what kind of rental prices to expect? What kind of licenses is needed? What is the ideal/best area for cafe/bar/nightlife activity?

If anyone could help me I would be most grateful - Morten (email: bikiniweb2003 at yahoo.co.uk)

Bar I would say anywhere near or around Parque Lleras in El Poblado, also near Plaza del Poblado or along Calle 10 (also in El Poblado).
But this whole location thing depends on the type of people who would like to be in your bar, what type of music will you play inside?
You´ll need a liquor license.

bar there are an incredible amount of new bars opening in the parque lleras area... i have been here every year since 2000 and its changed hugely. my friend just bought a bar in lleras... this year i would say 30 plus bars have opened around lleras

good luck

i was also told that there is a freeze on the issuing of new licenses. but that does not seem right

morten66 Be carefull, don't rush into it, there are a lot of bars opening, many won't make it.

Get on the ground first, decide on the area, then do it if you think you can make it, that particular industry is very difficult, most fail.

Do you have any experience in this line of business.

"around Parque Lleras in El Poblado"

Be careful there. The bars directly beside the park get all the customers, while the ones just 40 meters away get very much less attention. And, there are a couple places who sell booze to people on the street at 1/3 the cost of the bars. I could get a gigantic cup of beer for like 2000 pesos, and my wife was buying Smirnoff Ice at 30% of the bar prices.

Its legal to drink in public in Colombia, so the park is filled with thousands of people who'd prefer to drink outside (or kids who have little money!).
