On-line Purchases In Colombia

Anyone have experiences with online shopping and/or purchases while in Colombia? i understand that Exito, and some other businesses have websites where they display their some of their products. Maybe we can establish a current and reliable listing of Colombian websites where research can be conducted prior to purchasing some items within Colombia. I know i do alot of research on US items, especially electronics and PC related items. I weigh the cost of the US items (plus shipping cost and ease of shipping) versus cost and availability within Colombia. For example, i recieved a Sony (Colombia) email ad for a Sony Bravia KDL40V2500 1080 flatscreen $5,7900,000 cpo......i know i can get a much betterprice in the US, then add shipping etc..but there must be some online stores where select items can be located and purchased within Colombia......the website for Sony products is

http://www.sony.com.co

Feel free to post your experiences, and the websites which you use while conducting purchase research.........

That site looks like it would handle the purchasing aspect of buying online......using Conavi and BanColombia.....what has your experience been with this site?

what about www.mercadolibre.com? That was being advertised all over Colombia on TV, like the ebay of Latin America I believe. You know the commercial... "someone is there, waiting for my love" then the girl buys a kiss from the dude.

I would assume that is fairly reliable.

I've bought lots of things in mercadolibre.com and i can tell you it totally depends on the seller and the points he/she has.....For example, there are some guys selling stuff who have sold 1100 things and have a 97% score of good comments.
You can assume that being their 1101 customer you won't get robbed.....1000 people already had a good experience negotiating with the guy so you can be cool about sending the money.

I've bought proteins, cd's, computer stuff, cameras, etc. The 99% of these transactions were clean and easy but still i got robbed once.
A guy who had never sold anything (which means he had a 0% score of positive comments, and had been a member for only 2 days) convinced me to send him the money through 'bancolombia' as quick as possible to buy a cellphone..... i did it and the bastard stole my money.......It was like 3 years ago when it was called www.deremate.com and i didn't really know how the system works.

So, If you're going to buy anything in mercadolibre.com BE SURE TO CHECK THE SELLER'S BACKGROUND, i'm an i.t specialist and i can assure the security in that website is pretty good, if someone has sold 4000 articles with 100% good comments from customers, it's because that seller has actually earned those points, you just can't make that up outside their main server.

Mmmm, and another thing, check if the seller has a little gold medal next to his/her nickname, that means mercadolibre.com has certified him as a reliable user. It's better when they have it because it means the website owners know the guy personally

Any doubts, or if you guys need any help with this my e-mail is ---> andrespra at gmail.com

bye.

I've looked into Mercadolibre.com extensively and am a Member but they make business difficult at the moment, especially if you are from out of country. Payments are the issue IMO. One big drawback is that they do NOT have Paypal(full service) like they have in the USA for eBay sales and purchases. . Their way of conducting business is NOT transparent. I see Mercadolibre today where eBay was in 1998 when I joined that selling medium. A PBH member went to the Bogota Office of Mercadolibre and his opinion of Mercadolibre was less then positive and encouraging. Hopefully in a few years they will get their act together as it definetly has a future in Colombia. Friends of mine buy&sell with good sucess on MercadoLibre in Chile and Argentina.Security still is a big issue to the progress of Mercadolibre in Colombia.

Ok, so other than ebay style sites, has anyone used any other online sites to locate products within Colombia?.....i know in Cartagena, there is minimal office electronics available, a little more in BAQ......i beleive there is the best availabiltity in Bogota......i once looked for a decent allinone printe by Canon in three cities, taking almost a month to look, and no-go........i wound up bringing one on my next flight......

Mercadolibre doesn't have paypal because paypal is not yet here....But some sellers accept credit card payments using a service that works exactly like paypal.......I can't remember the name now but i used it 1 year ago to buy a stereo.

All in one printers ---> Unilago, Bogota.

I heard Paypal was in Colombia now. It was posted here about a month ago. Though, not all services were reported to be available. I can't remember details.

As I mentioned earlier, Paypal is not in Colombia(full service) as it is here in the USA. You can only send Money via Paypal to someone inColombia presently. Has to do with the Security problem. Paypal and the list of the 190 countries they are in and exactly what services they offer:

BTW Andresest--Paypal(thru its parent company eBay) picks where they open shop up and in what countries. It will be Paypal's Call(actually eBay-usa) when and if the go to Mercadolibre in Colombia, not Mercadolibre's Call. If that was the case, they would have been there years ago as having Paypal would be a tremendous boost to not only Mercadolibre's Sales but all Colombian Online Sales.
