cell Hi

Do the phones use SIM Cards?

Then you can buy a prepaid card and number for your own phone.

Thanks

Yes OLA has simcards. I have an OLA prepaid phone and it isn't great. I got a tri-band for a good price (useful for trips home) and my partner already had an OLA, so it made sense to get one. But they are clueless when it comes to the financial aspects of their business and reception outside Bogota is patchy at best.

cell phone Hi Byron

Thanks for your reply.

So I should be able to buy a sim card and use my own phone?
With the card comes a local phone number and minutes?

What is an Ola prepaid phone?
Do you get the phone and time?
Is it only good for Ola to Ola?

Thanks again

ola cell phone I was not totally clear about all your questions, but here is my best shot. If you have a cell phone that uses sim cards(assuming it is compatable with one of the three cell service providers here )you can bring your phone here and all you need to buy is the sim card.(arround 20 USD ) This will give you a Colombian cell phone number. At this point you will have two options. Prepaid or monthly fee for a finite amount of minutes. All the cell service providers here allow you to call to others with different cell services although it will be more expensive to phones using different services) For example. I have an OLA phone. It costs me around 300 colombian pesos(cop) a minute to call OLA phones and around 900 (cop) to call comcell or bell south phones. All the prepaid phones here accept incoming calls for free. Hope this helps. David
