ok,i'm going to Colombia, but i need some help with.....

Hey,what's up!!! paisas, ummm i need some help, i'm going to colombia, and i'm living right now in the states, i've saved some money to pay for my trip and everything, but just to know..... how much does an average person spends a day in colombia or a month???, and another question, if i don't want to travel with all that money(wich in fact it's not a lotttt) , what's the best bank to wire my money to , so that i don't lose a lot just by taking some money out(u know, because the rate that they charge on a ATM machine)???. thanks for any opinion, and i can't wait to go.
this is actually the first time i enter this website and i love it.
hope to see all the paisas soon.
bye

Don't have money wired ... too much trouble and a rip off. Just get a service fee FREE Visa/MC debit card and use ATMs. The ATMs give you that day's fair exchange rate. Use Davivendia (spelled wrong) ATMs. You can take 500.000 pesos out at a time. Why is this important? More bang for your buck. Most ATMs let you take a max of 200.000 or 300.000 pesos per transaction. And the transactions have fees of course on the Colombian bank's side. Less withdrawels = less fees. I heard Compass Bank is 100% ATM card fee "free" on their end. They supposedly will even refund the OTHER bank's transaction fee. I do not know if the second statement is still true. You will have to research that yourself. To get money WIRED to an account, you have to have opened an account obviously in Colombia, which takes a cedula, and good luck with that hassle. Western Union and such work, but you are dependent on somebody else helping you, and the fees are higher than just using an atm card. It also may be a hassle without a cedula. Good luck! I would stick with an atm card with a Visa or Mastercard logo and use ATMs. Minimize usage of the card because of the fees. Less use, less fees.

BEWARE of gold diggers.

Great Question on banking I'm receiving U.S. social security payments via direct deposit, my question is if I went to the bank of Colombia here in Miami, Fl. and opened an account would you know if it's the same system in banking U.S. and in Colombia for withdrawals without penalties, plus I'm moving to Armenia what can you tell me about that town?
Thank you

Unless your Rich Use a Prepaid Debit Card... You can have direct deposit on most prepaid debit cards..or use your normal banking card..at a ATM Fees not so bad...Withdraw your funds at a ATM...I use a Western Union prepaid card..which is not bad and have no problems.. Filed Bankruptcy so don't have bank account and don't need one..Come on Guys picking at 1.00 there or .50 cents there to much time wasted..as you know.. To my knowledge you need a Business Visa or Cedula to open a colombian bank account.. so use your US Banking Card at ATM's. Enough as Mike said..

thank's, but.......... ok, i'm very thankfull for all ure help and everything, i looked on a bank on line, it's called compass bank, i think and they claim the have no fees worldwide, so that could be a plus, i think i'll stick with leaving my money here in the sstates and just use y ATM card, even though i allready have a cedula colombiana , i don't want to get there and have to do a lot of paperwork.

But maybe i have annother question here....
and i'm going to post it later, about how much does a normal person spends there a month, i know it's relative, but just talking numbers, in avrage, and annothere thing i would like to know if anybody here lives in manizales colombia, so that he or she coulld tell me aprox how much is a ''apartoestudio'' i've been looking in '' la patria'' but a friend wich i havent had a chance to talk to again, told me that it's sometimes cheaper to just look on the street, to find a better deal, ok thank's for all the opinios, hope to get there as soon as possible, and annother question, is it legal to send a bong or hookas to colombia??????
ok byebye

Debit Card If you have an ATM (Debit) card you will be fine. My Debit and Credit Cards have always worked at all banks in Colombia. If you do not like this idea open up a internet bank account or PayPal.

Good luck,
