PBH / colombia (travelguide, pictures) / post

Ok, so you wake up one morning, and YOU are the President of Colombia...

What 3 current issues and/or problems facing Colombia would be your highest priorities, and what would YOU do to solve them?

Clavo, the first thing I would do would be to Impeach Myself and hand the reigns over to You, Rubito, and Monpirri.
So you guys could First, get the National Anthem rewritten, with some new firepower,...I'm thinking a lil reaggatoen/vallenato split; Rubito's charge of course. And Monpirri's task is to get ALL EXPATS back to Colombia, so there is lots of extra manpower to get things done and help the economy get rollin.

Colombia; It's no Disneyland.
It's.... THE MAD HATTER!

Ciao! Gustav.

Well, R, one of my 3 would be to eliminate that cancerous governmental corruption...if all the government people are not on the same page, it is like battling a long term cancer....the head operating honestly and with integrity is capable of nothing if the rest of the body doesnt contribute.....and death is the result....but to begin with the economy (jobs and salaries) has to improve, to eliminate a root cause of corruption...and an higher educated workforce and people would be an obstacle to corruption in its officials....you would have to start with the military and law enforcement believing in a better way, and taking pride in personal integrity......institutionalized corruption would be on my hit list.....FARC, paras, and other crime organizations would also be on my "S-List".....freeing up $$ for the immediate needs of health, employment, and quality of life issues....

Just my opinion...

Dragon Milk is an ale, R.....i have a few brain cells left, but brain cells than prison cells, right? Rome was not built in a day, and i think alot of Colombia's woes were in place well before Uribe stepped up to the plate...(or plata?) and i dont think it matters who is in charge, because it's the long term government hackeys who really run the country, along with the $$ people and corps..

...Just my opinion...

If I were the President, I'd presumably have some idea of how to secure the personal loyalty of the armed forces. If that were attainable, I'd push through land reform. Break up the latifundia and turn much of the country into a patchwork of independent smallholders.

Also, a big public works scheme to help alleviate urban unemployment.

But, yes, you're right: Corruption is the big problem. And the Lord only knows how I'd tackle that. Raising the salaries of public employees does sound like a good start though.

do it attitude.
1. build up army, build up intellegence. ask countries like USA, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, etc to assist in all out campain to find and destroy rebels, narcos, all bad guys. find them, destroy or jail them. put politics and PC aside and go after them.

2. announce to the world that the bad guys are no longer a threat and that Colombia is a country inviting investors to help colombians build their nation up. Invite all people of the world to visit and vacation in Colombia(except Al Gore), do a big chamber of commerce push, rebuild ports and airports, make the country accesable to the world.

3. begin a huge effort to make Colombia a leading country of SA, hire masses of people and begin reconstruction of roads, bridges, schools, everything. encourage the people to use entreprenuership abilities, make it easy for Colombians to get loans for small business and homes, make it easier for colombians to attend school, colleges, trade schools, technical schools, bring in foreign teachers to teach the skills of this century. bring in investors from all over the world to create business and help rebuild the country.Invite the world to join in in the new better Colombia.
do it attitude!

i would.. push thru decriminalization of drugs NOT only in COL, but in Western Europe and US.. OR get those countries to send EVEN MORE massive AID! because, unless the major users(US/Europe) decriminalize drug use(AND start TAXING IT). then it'll never end. criminals, paras, AND FARC all use drug profit to fund their violence and control. Reduce price(and start taxing it), force them to become CORPORATE(if they want to produce/sell), then they'll battle in the courtroom and boardroom(just like the tobacco companies), instead of in the society.

HECK, you dont see US tobacco/alchohol companies getting in to shoot out for controlling turf/market. They just fund superbowl ads or magazine ads in playboy!
