oil to fall to $40, maybe even $30

so predicts Sanford Bernstein:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070212.w40oil0212/BNStory/Business/

I like the fact they predicted the crash of Nortel in 2000, most other wall street firms were blindly following the crowd, as usual.

So I guess Chavez will be able to blame oil prices for the collapse of the venezuelan economy, jaja!

Pod Think baseball to calm your hard-on for Chavez down. You have a serious jones for the dude.

This is an even bigger story than Chavez for you....

Where's the money going??? Think about it, oil prices per barrel have dropped approx. $20/barrel in the past few months. Yet, prices at the pump have only dropped $1/gallon??? Yet all of the oil companies are reporting astronomical annual profits???

Chavez isn't the issue in this story. Where's the money going?

Oil to fall to $40, maybe even $30. With ongoing issues in Iraq and will probably be that way for a while, Rebels in the Niger Delta, and now a possible conflict with Iran. I do not see oil dropping that low. besides with all the profits the big oil raked in over the last two years, I am sure they will do everything in their power to make sure oil remains high. Amd they have a lot of power and the backing of the US armed forces. The only time I would think Oil price will be manipulated to start dropping is next year during the presidential campaign, to make repuppetcans (oops I mean republicans) to look good and keep the white house.

Question, what does this have to do with Colombia? I would love to see oil drop, but then there is reality.

I just happened to be reading the newspaper and that article was in it, so I thought it was appropriate.

No worries, I'm getting tired of the chavez stuff. Off I go to do some work.

cali: I'd like to see oil go through the roof, as that helps the canadian dollar immensely, and that makes it much cheaper for me to buy pesos. It's all about me, man. But my gut tells me it"s going down in the medium term at least

Who cares what Exxon does with their money? They have to answer to their shareholders, TRUE and many are already exxon execitives.

"and numerous U.S. government agencies plus government agencies in all the countries where they do business." You really think so, maybe on paper but in reality lobbyist make sure that key politicians answer to exxon, or they will lose campaign funds and exxon will have no trouble finding a politician that will take their money.

Who cares what Exxon does with their money? I don't care what they do with their money, except I do care about the much more important effects that are caused when US government actions cause exxon to rake in record profits. Like starting an unjust war, indirectly causing the deaths of tens of thousands of inocent me, woman, and children. Financing the war with money the US does not have, which we will then have to pay back to countries like China. I care because this has not made US Americans safer and killing people in a far off third world nation will not make us any safer. But it will put us into debt. I care because one day I want to have chidren and they, just as your children and grandchildren will still be paying for this war. Ultimately I care because this is not how a country that prides itself on law and order, peace, prosperity, freedom behaves. We are an agressor! Just like the Rome, Nazi Germany, and the Soviet Union. Their citizens also thought that bringing the sword or gun was for the better. They were wrong, just as we are wrong. I don't want this great country to go down like Rome did. There are millions of us that know out foreign policy is cruel, and they will go down along with the few that think destroyed what the U.S. is really suppossed to be about.

BTW, I think the Venezuelens though "hey the Americans chose an S.O.B, why not us."

cali373 Would you please take a moment and explain to me how the republicans control oil prices? I mean since both houses of congress are now in Democrates control, and most of the world wide oil is controlled by dictators such as Chavez, how exactly do the republicans control oil prices?
Also don't forget when we had the worst oil situation this country has ever seen back in the 1970's with the long gas lines and OPEX and all the other problems the president at that time was a democrat Jimmy Carter.

Tinto Very good post and right on target. You are right who cares what the big corporations do, we have no control over what they do, as you state they need only answer to the goverment and their shareholders.
As for Venezuela and Chavez, I feel sorry for those people I think they are headed on a slippery slope down down down unless they get rid of Chavez and fast.

It amazes me how the left are now opposed to outsourcing (= globalization, I think, hard to tell as the protestors are not very coherent)!?

So let's see, Big Ugly American Corp fires a bunch of americans and hires a bunch of Indians or Chinese to do the same work, and that's bad for the people in China and India who now have jobs?

I can see why guys like Pat Buchanan and Lou Dobbs are opposed to it, but I thought the lib left wanted us to help the poor in other countries?

I guess they don´t want jobs (=exploitation, jaja!) just cold hard cash.

as for helping people I am currently employing 15 people full time, in a business that would not exist if I had not worked hard and saved since I was 15.

Now I am rolling the dice with almost every penny I have, could easily lose it all, be back at square one, no pension, no savings, no job.

Or I might make a small fortune.

Either way, I'm loving every minute of it.

And I know for sure that by starting this venture I have done and will do far more for the little guy than you (colombiamike) ever will.

Especially true since you seem to be proud of people that kill innocents in their greedy hunger for power.

DG-I Have to Correct you,,,, on your statement "Chavez is slowly killing Venezuela" should read "The Politicians for the last 50 years have been slowly killing Venezuela" While Venezuela has a probelm for sure, it just did NOT start with Chavez. It started a long time ago but we, the USA, turned our heads because they were Caudillos of our own choosing and control and they did our bidding,,,Now you have a different crowd doing the spending so the old group(and all their stolen money)is out and they are pissed to put it mildily. I see them here in Miami all the time popping off with their Cuban Buddies, what they both should be doing is staying in their own countries and effect change within Venezuela(and cuba) instead of running to the USA and then expect us, the USA, to go down and toss out the Politicians they don't like. Its a 3 Ring Circus the truth be told,,,I have no sympathy for those who cut and run instead of staying and overthrowing those who aren't to their liking,,,

JUST CURIOUS MIAMIMIKE.... got any ideas where "Little Caracas" will be located at in the MIA area?

0 funny, 0 helpful.

miamimike says on Feb 15, 2007, 10:28:

Athensugadawg--Guess the closest you can come IS Key Biscayne though they (venezuelans) are scattered throughout the miami area. Go to Stefano's(rest&nightclub) on Key Biscayne, many strata 6 types will be seen there. Many found in the Weston area NW of miami also but really there scattered all over like the Colombians . There really isn't a Little Caracas area like there is a Little Havana area for the Cubans(Calle oche 4th ave to 27 ave (more or less) or a Little Santo Domingo Area on 17th ave NW (from around 10th ave NW to 36 ave nw)where many Dominicans live. Even Little Havana has been invaded by many Central Americans so that is a mixed neighborhood these days. Those Dan Pan Bakeries(several located in Miami) in Miami are also Venezuela owned-they use White Corn Flour in their Arepas, try them if you are in Miami, they offer a real decent product.

Venezuela's government may or nmay not harm Venezuela, but will hnot have much influence beyond that country. The charlatan that the Americans elected on the other hand...he could choke oil supplies and cause another great depression with that reckless power grab in the MidEast ...he has single-handedly created a shia revival which will soon flex its power in bahrain, suadi arabia, kuwait...all the oil rich regions of the mideast are on shia land. The charlatan that leeds the US has returned us to where we were in the 80s during the Iran-Iraq war except that now its as if Iran had won that war.

People do not need an inefficient oversized motor vehicle to get to work, people DO NEED gas(comes from oil) to get to their job at least five times a week, back and forth.
